Leo's complexity stems from the fact that they aim to portray both confidence and power but don't quite have the emotional chops to back it up.

"This fire sign loves to be the center of attention, is very dramatic and proud, and always wants to rule," says Spiritual Discovery astrologer Linda Berry. "They have a big and strong ego and hold steadfast opinions, not appreciating or even allowing input from others."

However, it's sometimes hard for them to keep up the charade. "Added to these complex emotional traits, they can be immature and throw temper tantrums, even resorting to spiteful actions," says Berry. Expect flamboyant bids for attention and emotional meltdowns, sometimes within the same hour.

"Their personality is known to be adaptable and clever, which gives them the ability to lie without breaking a sweat," says Berry. "This is the most shallow and superficial sign of the zodiac, which allows them to improvise and be a totally different person or two-faced."

With a Gemini, you never know exactly what you're going to get—and you'll constantly find yourself wondering if you'll be faced with the good twin or the evil twin on any given day.

The first sign of the zodiac, Aries is often in a rush and always wants to be the leader.

"As a competitive fire sign, they have strong emotional aggression to succeed and conquer," says Berry. "Like the mythological Ram, which is their glyph symbol, they rarely quit at anything they set their mind to, especially when it involves a position of power."

Unfortunately, that means they sometimes stoop low if they think it means they can get ahead. "This trait alone makes them unpredictable to others around them in both career and personal life," Berry adds. "Their complex nature drives extreme ambition and they enjoy the spotlight." Expect them to be your number-one supporter—until they decide that they'd rather beat you to the finish line.

Pisces is last on the zodiac wheel, and because of that, their personalities include traits from every other sign. "Their main peculiarity is that they can easily put themselves in other people's shoes and show that they understand a person's feelings and actions," says Alice Alta, resident astrologer for the Futurio app.

However, it's their over-active imaginations that make them truly complex to outsiders. For example, a Pisces person might drum up the idea that they're in a full-blown relationship with someone when all they've ever done is flirt with that person.

"This sign's representatives should develop sober thinking," advises Alta. "They should realize that they can spend years in their fantasy world—which definitely makes their lives brighter—but when it's time to take serious action, it's much better to see things as they really are." If they don't, they'll wind up baffling themselves and those around them.

A Cancer's feelings are sometimes compared to a deep well: "If something falls there, it may be next to impossible to find it," says Alta.

People represented by this sign have intense emotions, oftentimes ones that are contradictory. "Due to this, absolutely absurd situations may happen," Alta explains. "For example, everyone around may tell a male Cancer that he seems to be in love with some woman but he may deny it with all his might, though deep inside he knows that it's true. His emotions simply need more time to get into the conscious." Only after years might he realize that he actually was in love with the woman.

Of all the signs, Cancers can particularly benefit from opening up and talking about their feelings with friends or family; this will help them work through their emotions.

If you're close with a Scorpio, then you probably wouldn't argue with the fact that they're one of the most complex signs of the zodiac.

"Known for their 'sting of the scorpion,' they have the strength and perseverance to meet any challenge brought their way, and on their trek to reach their goals, they love to keep secrets and also to spread gossip that will assist their cause," says Berry. "This trait, along with their secretive nature, makes people around them unable to predict their next move."

But Scorpios are often as unpredictable to themselves as they are to others. "They have difficulties understanding themselves through the depths of their hidden emotions, which causes destructive tendencies in their own life as well as in the lives of those around them," says Berry. "This tumultuous energy also conjures up 'several under the surface' levels of transformation, which allows them to heal quickly from injuries and emotional trauma."

They can tolerate and inflict great pain, which makes them an anomaly to more straight-edge signs. In other words, their complexity knows no bounds.
