According to astrology pros, the reason some people seem to be on another planet is because of, well, the planets. Those born at certain times are more prone to checking out and forgetfulness, while others always pay close attention and show up 10 minutes early. Read on to learn who's in the former camp—these are the six spaciest zodiac signs, from a little bit out to lunch to practically asleep with their eyes open.

Earth-sign Virgos are logical, methodical, and well-known perfectionists. They process information the way a computer does, turning chaotic data into organized thought. But we all know that even technology isn't perfect. "Surprisingly, Virgo can also be spacy despite being detail-oriented and seemingly organized," says Liz Simmons, an astrologer at The Crone. "Virgo typically bites off more than they can chew, which will lead to eventual forgetfulness!"

But since they hold themselves to such high standards, Virgos will beat themselves up over their absentmindedness. "They don't want to space out—there's too much to do in the world and too much to correct and perfect," adds Leah Goldberg, astrology content writer and editor at Svana.

Libra is an air sign, but that doesn't automatically make them airheads. They're the chameleons of the zodiac, wanting to please everyone at once. They're social and flirty and fit in just about anywhere. But this can make them unreliable. "In short, they seek fun all the time and don't take life too seriously, but this means that some important responsibilities get sidelined," explains Rachel Clare, an astrologer at Mysticsense.

Libra's indecisiveness also gets in their way. They'll take time to weigh the pros and cons of any situation, making a U-turn even after plans have been made. "Lucky for them, they all learn sooner or later that life can't be balanced, [so] they leave the room in their minds and travel far and wide to places that make them happy instead of living in the stinky old real world," says Joanne Lara, astrologer and founder of Sacred Joanne.

The mutable–i.e. inconsistent–signs (Sagittarius, Gemini, Virgo, and Pisces) all have a forgetful and flighty side. Sagittarius, the zodiac's final fire sign, expresses this in their curiosity, thirst for knowledge, and desire to see the ever-changing big picture. Their adventurous side also comes into play. "Saggies don't like wasting their time with details and are likely to just jump into a situation before looking at what it entails," explains author and astrologer Lisa Barretta. "They don't usually stick with anyone or anything that becomes too predictable or boring, which leads to Sagittarius developing a 'not really all there' attitude. When they space out, know that it is a sign that they are ready to 'peace out' and find their next adventure."

Aquarians are innovators, progressives, and trendsetters. As the last air sign in the zodiac, they're cerebral, often to a fault. These big thinkers can sometimes lose sight of the trees for the forest, as it were. They become so set on changing the world that they can't see the things and people closest to them. "Aquarians are rebellious people who strive to be the contrarian in most situations, making it difficult to form a solid connection with them," notes Clare.

"People refer to Aquarians as aliens for a reason!" adds Maisy Bristol, founder of Tarot by Maisy. "Mostly, Aquarius is so wrapped up in logistics, they forget to tap into their emotional side, which can make them seem cold or distant… and aloof." This aloofness translates to spaciness in many cases.

Ruled by Mercury, the planet of quick thinking and communication, Gemini has a mind that travels at the speed of light, absorbing every bit of information and buzz available. They love socializing, making plans, and meeting new people, but their jam-packed calendars mean they're the most scattered sign of the zodiac. "This sign has so many things to think about at once, they can easily become overloaded and lose sight of anything tangible at all!" says Bristol.

And like other air signs, Geminis are not always tethered to reality. Symbolized by the twins, they often have two personalities—and you don't always know in advance which one you're dealing with. "As a fickle sign, Gemini tends to waver between a few different options or opportunities at any given time, which may cause them to be forgetful," explains Simmons.

Water sign Pisces ebbs and flows between reality and its enchanted opposite. Deeply empathetic and sensitive (sometimes even clairvoyant and psychic), Pisces can become overwhelmed by emotions, and tends to see a rosier picture than the one that really exists, earning them a reputation for being flaky. And because they operate on feelings over logic, others easily view them as spacey, notes Barretta. "Pisces flourishes in their own mystical world of escapism."

But it's this intuitive, dreamy nature that also makes this sign the most creative of the zodiac. "Pisces just want an easy life with peace and harmony," says Goldberg. "They are, by far, the spaciest sign, and that's why they often make the best musicians, painters, writers, and artists in general."
