Well, we've finally reached the end of 2020. Congrats to all of you reading this: you did it. But before we move on to 2021, which will hopefully bring lighter and better times, let's remember a few of the moments that made us laugh through the darkness. While most of us were stuck at home, social media communication became even more essential. And these actors, musical artists, reality TV stars, and comedians helped keep humor alive with tweets about the pandemic, parenting, and whatever other random thoughts popped into their heads. Let's start with this Macaulay Culkin tweet, which is really a shock to the system. Home Alone came out 30 whole years ago, and back in August, the actor threw us all by tweeting, "Hey guys, wanna feel old? I'm 40. You're welcome." This fact really hit hard for a lot of people, seeing as the tweet has over three million likes. If anyone can expedite Christmas, it's the queen of the holiday season herself, Mariah Carey. "THANKSGIVING IS CANCELLED," she tweeted way back in September, doing her best to skip to the end of the year. A lot of celebrities had thoughts on this year's presidential debates, but Mark Hamill's tweet takes the cake. "That debate was the worst thing I've ever seen & I was in The Star Wars Holiday Special," the star wrote. Dionne Warwick's Twitter presence loomed large at the end of the year, with this earnest question to Chance the Rapper standing out among her more popular observations. "Hi, @chancetherapper," she tweeted. "If you are very obviously a rapper why did you put it in your stage name? I cannot stop thinking about this." Rapper Cardi B tweets about everything from politics to her music to her expensive tastes, but she kept it simple with this May tweet—"Do ants poop ?"—that just might leave you asking, "Do they…?"

If you have ever looked up a recipe online and ended up on someone's food blog, this tweet is for you. Writer and actor Mindy Kaling nailed the feel of those long, personal stories bloggers share before finally getting to the stuff you came for.

Naturally, a lot of celebrity tweets this year had to do with the pandemic, including this one from Seth Rogen. "Really looking forward to being bad at making eye contact again," the funny actor wrote. Who doesn't long to return to the awkwardness of public life?

In September, Chris Evans accidentally posted a personal photo on his Instagram Story. But, instead of ignoring it all together, he tweeted this message about voting and got over one million likes. "Now that I have your attention…" he joked, "VOTE Nov 3rd!!!" It's the head slap emoji that really makes it.

Lil Nas X of "Old Town Road" fame is hilarious on Twitter. But, as he knows, tweeting alone doesn't pay. This tweet about living off of his biggest hit single is somehow both self-deprecating and boastful. "Gonna start back releasing music soon the old town road money running out," he wrote. Can't wait.

Responding to a derogatory tweet about the feminist themes in the 2018 Halloween sequel, Jamie Lee Curtis threw it back to an ad campaign you may have forgotten. "You are a grumpy goat," she said, addressing a follower who accused her of putting "a #MeToo theme" in the movie because "she was broke."

"I sold activia yogurt for seven years. I wasn't broke," she continued. Don't mess with JLC.

Rita Wilson and her husband Tom Hanks were two of the first celebrities who publicly spoke about being diagnosed with COVID-19. And after Wilson's experience, she was definitely over this whole pandemic thing. "From here on out, the only Corona I want is from Mexico and you drink it," she wrote, all the way back in March. James Blunt rose to fame (and was relentlessly trolled) with his soft-pop songs "You're Beautiful" and "Goodbye My Lover" in the mid 2000s. Since then, he's become such a Twitter hero that he published the book How To Be A Complete and Utter Blunt: Diary of a Reluctant Social Media Sensation. He had another hit with this joke about musicians entertaining fans during quarantine.

"During lockdown, while many other artists are doing mini-concerts from their homes, I thought I'd do you all a favour and not," he said.

Some tweets are funny on purpose. Others are funny by accident. This Kylie Jenner tweet fits the latter category, purely because it aged so poorly. In February, Jenner had no idea that 2020 would go way downhill from there, but she'd already "had enough."

At the beginning of the pandemic, people were baking bread, enjoying Zoom calls, and watching actors bartend on Instagram—and it almost seemed like lockdown wouldn't be that bad. "Remember when Stanley Tucci showed us how to make a Negroni and we were like 'Ok maybe we'll get through this quarantine thing' LOL," comedian Kumail Nanjiani wrote in August.

Chrissy Teigen is basically the queen of Twitter, so of course she contributed to the pandemic conversation, too. As empty platitudes started hitting the airwaves, she tweeted what we were all thinking: "does anyone know if we will get through this together or not? or if these times are certain or uncertain? no one letting me know."

Jeopardy! champion Ken Jennings has become an unlikely and hilarious Twitter personality over the years. Among his many funny tweets is this one about raising kids. "I've never felt like more of a failure as a parent than when I learned neither of my kids likes cold pizza," he said. And he's right. Who doesn't like cold pizza?!

Gabourey Sidibe became a star thanks to the intense drama Precious, but on social media, she's got plenty of jokes. This year, she contributed to the ongoing debate about a love-it-or-hate-it seasonal treat and made a solid point.

With going to a movie theater is either impossible or risky during the pandemic, many people have been renting films at home. That includes Neil Patrick Harris, who probably shelled out more than he should have for one of last year's most mocked movies.

If you're above the age of six, Candyland is the most boring game on the planet, and you should do whatever you can to avoid playing it.

"Hiding as i hear my son say "its time to play candyland" in the distance," Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Chelsea Peretti wrote, which probably got a lot of nods of agreement from other parents.

Pitch Perfect actor Anna Kendrick expressed a feeling almost anyone can relate to during 2020. "I guess I'll never be able to lie to myself again about all the **** I would do if I just had the time," she wrote. This tweet goes out to anyone who finally started writing their novel this year.

Remember early in the year when when everyone got into watching Netflix's addictive dating show Love Is Blind? It seems like ages ago now, but this sarcastic tweet from Bachelor star Sean Lowe, who met his wife on his own reality series, will bring you right back.

"My wife has been binging Love is Blind on Netflix," Lowe tweeted. "I don't get it. What kind of losers need a silly TV show to find love?"

It also seemed like everyone was binging Netflix's Tiger King early in the pandemic, leading to a lot of conversation about who should take on the role of its lead personality if a movie were made. Parenthood actor Dax Shepard threw his hat in the ring, saying, "If I don't get cast as Joe Exotic in the eventual biopic, Hollywood is broken."

If your eating patterns are a little wonky in quarantine, you're not alone. "Sometimes you need Hot Cheetos and whisky for breakfast and you don't even question it," Jackée Harry tweeted in September. She also posted a funny follow-up tweet: "Havings TUMS for dinner."

Singer and actor Keke Palmer posts a lot of tweets that begin with "I don't know who needs to hear this…," which are often serious or inspirational in tone. But not always.

"I don't know who needs to hear this, but that lemon water ain't doing nothing," she wrote, which is especially funny if you've been told it's some kind of magic cure-all.

At the end of the year, Spotify users can get stats about the music they listened to most in their Spotify Wrapped. Comedian Billy Eichner's review gave him this very specific insight about himself.

"According to my year end Spotify list, I am a young white woman coming of age sexually and emotionally in the summer of 1994," he wrote.

It didn't take Insecure star and creator Issa Rae long into the pandemic to come to this conclusion about herself. Back in March, she said what a lot of us have spent the past several months realizing.

"I thought I was a homebody this whole time, but it turns out I'm a bewherethe****iwannabe-body," she tweeted.

New parents are very familiar with receiving unsolicited advice from friends, acquaintances, and perfect strangers, and celebrities who use social media experience that more than anyone. Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson captured the feeling perfectly after welcoming his first child.

"If you are a new parent and are nervous, don't worry, there are millions of people on social media who love to tell you what to do and what you might already be doing wrong!" he joked. "You'll be fine!"

Sure, you can easily access your screen time stats on your phone. But are you sure you want to?

"I'm on my phone 16 hours a day? Great, that means I'm getting a solid 8 hours sleep," The Office star B.J. Novak tweeted in May.

"I'm not worried about a second lockdown," Conan O'Brien tweeted, looking for the positive, "because I already know all the best places in my house to cry."

This tweet from The Mindy Project actor Adam Pally will hit home for anyone who has to lug their kid's stuff around on a regular basis. Or anyone—parent or not—who has somehow ended up with a ton of reusable canvas bags.

"As a parent I think it's imperative never to leave the house with anything less then 17 different half filled beige canvas tote bags," Pally joked.

If you ask actor and director Elizabeth Banks, the Broadway song "Seasons of Love" needs a rewrite after this year. "Seasons of Zoom" has a nice ring to it.

"What's that song from Rent that measures a year in the life?" she tweeted. "Is it a billion minutes, a million coffees, zooms up the wahzoo and ten tons of ice cream? Cuz that's my 2020."

In September, Schitt's Creek swept the comedy categories at the Emmys. Watching from home, Killing Eve star Sandra Oh gave a shoutout to the series' star and creator—and her countryman—Dan Levy.

"Dan Levy – a true Canadian, just apologized for winning!!" she wrote. "Lol!!"

Speaking of Levy, he also posted about the show's big wins on Twitter, including that of Catherine O'Hara, who plays the Rose family matriarch—a character known for her over-the-top acting and huge ego.

"Well…Moira got her Emmy," he noted, much to fans' delight.

If you have a friend who won't stop sending you not-so-funny links, just know that Riverdale star Lili Reinhart can relate.

"We all have that one friend who sends us memes that aren't funny but we don't have the heart to say it so we just send **** like "lol that's a good one" and "hahah I feel that," she tweeted. Sometimes just an emoji or a "haha" will suffice!

Reinhart's Riverdale costar Cole Sprouse is also hilarious on Twitter, as this random observation proves. "Are you trying to tell me a thimble is not made for babies to take shots?" he asked. He makes a good point!

Grey's Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo shared how she knows she's raising her kids right.

"Me to my 6 year old… 'why don't you like to share?'" she tweeted in October. "'Mama… don't be crazy I love Cher she's a queen !!' Excuse me while I pat myself on the back for teaching my girls what's up!!!"

Plus, the kid expertly avoided answering a question about "sharing." Well done all around.

"When someone asks 'how are you doing through all of this?' I can now respond with 'I just cried at an episode of Chef's Table BBQ,'" Parks and Recreation actor Ben Schwartz tweeted in October. It's been such an emotional year that even a documentary series about barbecue pit masters can trigger a good cry.

"Once in a hotel I overheard a woman on the phone actually (no lie) truly yell, 'you robbed me of all my good years!'" actor Busy Phillips tweeted. "And it was stunning and wild to hear irl (and also like what does that even mean?) But now I feel that way about this pandemic. I've aged 10 good years in 7 weeks." So take a moment to yell that phrase into the air if that makes you feel better.
