In the 1980s and '90s, Sarah, Duchess of York—aka Fergie—was one of the most talked-out members of the British royal family. She married Queen Elizabeth's second youngest child, Prince Andrew, in 1986, and they welcomed two children together: Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie. The couple separated in 1992 and ultimately divorced in 1996.

Fergie, of course, made headlines during the time she was married to Andrew thanks to her position in the royal family, but she also continued to provoke conversation afterwards, due to reports about her finances, her role as a spokesperson for Weight Watchers, and various scandals.

Today, Fergie is still involved in the royal family, and she's also a writer. Read on to find out more about her life today, including the special inheritance she received from Queen Elizabeth.

Even though they split up 30 years ago, Sarah and Andrew live together and are still close. In 2021, she was asked during an interview with The Telegraphwhether they would remarry.

"All I can say is that we’re happy with the way we are right now," Fergie responded. She explained further, "‘We always say we are the most contented divorced couple in the world. We’re divorced to each other, not from each other. We are co-parents who support each other and believe that family is everything."

In the same interview, Fergie did not comment on the allegations against Andrew involving convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, which he has denied. Following the accusations becoming public, Andrew stepped down from public royal duties in 2019. In 2022, his military affiliation and royal patronages were removed, and he also stopped using "His Royal Highness."

She received a special inheritance from Queen Elizabeth.

When Queen Elizabeth died in September, she left her dogs to Fergie and Andrew, as reported by People. They took in two corgis, Muick and Sandy. According to The Telegraph, Fergie called being given the dogs "a big honor" and referred to the pets as "national treasures."

Through her daughters, Fergie now has two grandchildren. Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, welcomed their son, August Brooksbank, in February 2021. A few months later in September 2021, Princess Beatrice welcomed her daughter, Sienna Mapelli Mozzi, with her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

Fergie has long been an author, starting in the late '80s. She's published many children's books, as well as self-help books, two memoirs, and, more recently, her first novel, Her Heart for a Compass, which was released in 2021.

"I feel very strongly that [Lady Margaret] is almost my alter ego and that she's really telling the story of my life," Fergie told Good Housekeeping of the novel's lead character. "While it’s not an autobiography, I am talking about the real-life DNA in my heart." She's working on another novel, A Most Intriguing Lady, set to be released next year.

Fergie was also a producer on the 2009 movie The Young Victoria, which featured a cameo from Beatrice.
