At a Los Angeles Beyoncé concert on Sept. 4, Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet finally made their relationship public when they attended the show together and were filmed kissing in the audience. Since then, Jenner and Chalamet have attended other events together, including the U.S. Open and a New York Fashion Week (NYFW) dinner. The reality star and actor being seen out together comes after months of speculation that the two were dating—and months of people assuming that any relationship between them must be fake.
Now, however, their outings seem to be confirmation that they really are romantically linked. But for some—particularly fans of Chalamet—this proof is not enough. After photos and videos from the Beyoncé concert spread online, some Chalamet devotees are still saying they believe the relationship to be fake and orchestrated for publicity. Read on to find out why some people think there's more to this pair than meets the eye.

Jenner and Chalamet were first linked in April.
DFree / ShutterstockIn April, reports surfaced that Jenner and Chalamet were spending time together, with TMZ reporting that Jenner's car was photographed at Chalamet's house. At the time, a source told People that they "hang out every week" but that "it's not serious."
The source explained, "She is getting to know him. Kylie is having fun. After years of back and forth with Travis [Scott], she just wants to date without any pressure." (Jenner has two children with Scott.)

They've been seen together a lot recently.

A few days later, on Sept. 8, Chalamet and Jenner both attended the Haider Ackermann and Augustinus Bader dinner at NYFW, and were seated next to each other. Then, on Sept. 10, the couple attended the men's final match at the U.S. Open, where they were again photographed together and seen kissing.

Some people think the relationship is fake.
Fred Duval / ShutterstockAs evidenced on social media, a lot of people thought that Chalamet and Jenner were not actually dating until they saw the proof themselves. But others continue to maintain that the relationship is fake and that the celebrities are intentionally trying to trick the public for one reason or another.
The Chalamet fan account @ClubChalamet—which exists on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram—went viral recently after posting claims that Jenner and her team had been "stalking" Chalamet, and that the 27-year-old actor is now reluctantly participating in the faux relationship.
"After months and months of gossip media bombardment, gossip speculations, 'sources' from the kajenner [Kardashian-Jenner] camp, her people stalking Timmy's private residence, and his obvious avoidance of her, has finally paid off and had her primary objective met. Timothée has now played her hand and relented," reads a post from the account.
It continues, "That woman has now been redeemed in the eyes of her fans, investors, and the media. She's a brand that needs to be rehabilitated. Whatever type of blackmail or threats she has on Timmy, she stayed the course because her reputation needed to be cleansed by someone like Timothée Chalamet."

"This is all fake even though they’re kissing it’s all staged by her wicked evil mother Kris Jenner, she staged all this in the sad part is a Kylie and Timothée are involved in this [expletive] stage of PR stunt," reads a post on X.
Another person wrote, "Aww. Congrats to Kylie and Timothee on their real, not at all fake, real, like really it’s not at all orchestrated by her mom, I said REAL [expletive], relationship."
A fan added, "It’s such a fake relationship just for the cameras."

People are struggling to accept the relationship.
Andrea Raffin / ShutterstockAs shown in many social media posts, some people think that Jenner and Chalamet aren't really dating because her family is known for being in the public eye, and her mother, Kris, has a reputation online for orchestrating publicity stunts.
Additionally, many people have questioned what Chalamet and Jenner talk about, based on speculation that they don't have much in common, or that the 26-year-old reality star does not seem smart enough for Chalamet. Some fans have also posted about these stars not seeming like each other's "type."
A "body language expert" even expressed doubt about the relationship to The Sun. Judi James said that at the Beyoncé concert "their underlying signals together lacked synchronicity. It did not look authentic. Timothée's distracted kiss was the most impactful sign that he might not be as full-on as Kylie."

Other fans are defending Chalamet and Jenner.
Mike Stobe/Getty ImagesOthers have argued that the reasons put forth for the relationship being fake are nonsensical and even misogynistic.
"I think every joke about 'what do Timothee and Kylie talk about?' Just boils down to you guys see a woman who has had plastic surgery and automatically assume she’s stupid," someone posted on X.
Another X user wrote, "'What do Kylie Jenner and Timothee Chalamet even talk about?' Idk probably the fact that they’re both rich, famous, and attractive."
Someone else said, "Ultimately what the Kylie x Timothée resistance reminds us of is that for the public everything must fit into tidy little narratives or they won’t accept it."
"Like i don’t like the karjenners as much as the next person but the sheer astonishment surrounding timothee dating kylie and the belief that he is somehow 'too good for her' REAKS of misogyny and i don’t think any of y’all want to unpack that," another user concluded.
Meanwhile, another said, "People actin like there’s noooo way timothee would date kylie like he’s so much better than her???? I smell misogyny, my friends!!"
