And while these videos are certainly fun and cute, just how accurate are they in predicting your astrological soulmate?

We asked a panel of astrologers to give their opinions on the trend and also to share their thoughts on how the lunar phase you were born under can predict your love life (TikTok aside). Keep reading to learn more about your moon phase.

Moon sign is the zodiac sign that the moon was in at the exact time and place you were born. While your rising sign represents how others perceive you, your moon sign represents your emotional center or the part of yourself you keep hidden from others.

When it comes to predicting romantic compatibility, astrologers agree that moon sign is more of an indicator than moon phase.

"Understanding your moon sign can reveal important information about your emotional nature, instincts, and habits," explains professional astrologer Rebecca Farrar. But moon phase plays a role, too.

The way the TikTok trend works is that you get an image of the moon's phase (its shape, so to speak) and see how it fits together with that of your partner or crush. The idea is that if you create a full moon together, you're compatible.ae0fcc31ae342fd3a1346ebb1f342fcb

Professional astrologer Danelle Ferreira says "you cannot predict compatibility or soulmates via a viral trend," though she does add that understanding your moon phase "can show what you look for to find emotional safety in another person or partner."

Once you've identified which moon phase you and your partner were born under (again, you can use this simple calculator), you'll want to screenshot images of both moon phases in order to get in on the trend.

Then, download the CapCut video editing app. Next, find a video on TikTok using this trend and click the "try this template" button. Select the template in CapCut and select the images of your and your partner's moons. Add music and customize, and viola! You'll have your very own moon-phase compatibility video.

"This moon phase is associated with growth and expansion. You're likely drawn to someone who is driven and motivated to succeed," explains professional astrologer Ankush Wadhwa.

The First Quarter Moon appears as a half-circle with the right side illuminated. It occurs seven to 10 days after the new moon.

"Traits of people born under this lunar phase include independence, ambition, and willpower," Farrar says. These folks like to take big risks and bet on themselves. And they're attracted to equally ambitious and self-sufficient people in friendship and romance.

A Waxing Gibbous Moon appears as a mostly full circle, with only a small part of the left side in shadow. It is gradually increasing in size.

This moon phase can suggest someone is driven, focused, and determined, but also one that may need to work on balancing their high expectations with a healthy dose of self-compassion and acceptance. This can be especially applicable in relationships, where understanding is paramount.

The Full Moon is the biggest and brightest of the lunar phases and occurs when the Sun and Moon sit across from each other in your natal chart.

This phase is associated with intense emotions and a strong need for connection and intimacy. "You may find that these feelings are heightened during the full moon," says Wadhwa.

The Waning Gibbous Moon appears as a mostly full circle, with only a small part of the right side in shadow. It is gradually decreasing in size.

This moon phase can suggest someone is reflective and introspective, with a strong inner world and a deep sense of intuition. These folks are very rebellious and like to push the boundaries whenever they can, so they're attracted to more wild and free-spirited partners.

This moon phase occurs when the moon appears as a half-circle, with the left side illuminated in the sky. It's associated with perseverance, independence, and resourcefulness.

People born under the Last Quarter Moon are easygoing and know how to keep their cool under pressure. However, these people can also struggle to commit because they value their freedom too much.

The Waning Crescent Moon appears as a small sliver, which grows smaller each night until it disappears again during the New Moon phase.

Those born under this lunar cycle may be more reclusive or reflective, as it's the quiet time of the moon before it starts a new month. "These people have a lot of passion and fire in their hearts, but can feel stifled if they feel judged," explains Farrar.
