Jodie Foster and Her Wife Made a Rare Appearance at the Golden Globes

Their dog was there too, of course.

The Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, Feb. 28 didn't just kick off awards season. This year, they gave us a look inside celebrities' homes and family lives. With the ceremony taking place virtually for the most part, many of the nominees and their families participated from the comfort of their own homes. And one pair who got very  comfortable were Jodie Foster and her wife, Alexandra Hedison. The couple appeared to be wearing fancy pajamas while cuddling their dog, and they were totally shocked when Foster actually won in her category.

Foster won the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her work in The Mauritanian. She beat out Glenn Close, Olivia Colman, Amanda Seyfried, and Helena Zengel. Both Foster and Hedison looked genuinely surprised when Foster's name was announced. "No way! Are you kidding me? I think you made a mistake," Foster began her speech.

Foster and Hedison were spotted throughout the night hanging out with their dog.

Since many of the nominees attended the Globes virtually this year, audiences at home got to see a lot of them hanging out at home with their partners, children, and pets. Foster and Hedison were cozied up on a couch with their dog, Ziggy. In her speech, Foster thanked both of them. "I love my wife. Thank you, Alex," she said. "And Ziggy! And Aaron Rodgers! And, you know, the Hollywood Foreign Press. This is awesome. What a night."

About that Aaron Rodgers mention…

Foster and Green Bay Packers quarterback Rodgers are involved in a back-and-forth of shoutouts to each other. In early February, Rodgers mentioned Jodie Foster during his MVP speech. Foster worked with Rodgers' fiancée, Shailene Woodley, on The Mauritanian.

The actor explained on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that she does not know Rodgers, but is a huge fan of the Packers. It seems that Woodley told Rodgers he has a fan in the actor, and he decided to give her a shoutout. During that talk show appearance, Foster said she would mention Rodgers if she won at the Globes, and that's exactly what ended up happening.

Hedison shared a behind-the-scenes look at the couple's Globes night.

Hedison posted a video on Instagram that shows herself and Foster watching the telecast, with Foster still surprised at her win. She continues to say, "No way!" and then blurts out, "Wait. I think I'm still on TV" while laughing. (This part didn't actually make it on air.)

Hedison wrote in the caption of the post, "Behind the scenes shock. You won! Proud of you everyday but this one was especially fun."

Foster's wife also weighed in on an issue that hung over the awards ceremony. She re-posted several messages in her Instagram Story about how the organization responsible for the Golden Globes, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, has no Black members and hasn't for 20 years. As evidence of the effect this lack of diversity can have, Hedison noted how the critically acclaimed series I Will Destroy You from Black creator and actor Michaela Coel didn't receive any nominations.

Hedison used to be an actor, too.

Foster and her wife used to be in the same field. Hedison is now a professional photographer, but she previously was a working actor. "I remember scheduling a photo shoot, then being upset that I had to cancel my photography work to go to an audition," Hedison told The Genius List in a recent interview. "I officially made the transition in 1997 or 1998. I said, 'That's it, I'm not acting anymore,' and I gave it up." She briefly ended up returning to acting in the mid-2000s, appearing in several episodes of the series The L Word.

Foster and Hedison have been married for almost seven years.

Foster and Hedison got married in 2014 after about a year together, according to E! News. Foster doesn't have Twitter or Instagram or speak much about her relationship or private life in interviews, but she does sometimes mention her adult children, Kit and Charles, who she shares with her ex, Cydney Bernard.

In a 2018 interview with Porter, Foster said of motherhood, "I mean, there were just so many surprises about it. It's been such a creative experience for me. That's probably why I worked so little when the boys were [younger]. A day of putting together LEGO and making up a song about peanut butter was as creative as I needed to be."
