Earlier this month, JCPenney announced a major comeback. The department store is being acquired by a company that owns other former mall mainstays like Forever 21, Aéropostale, and Lucky Brand. There are no current plans to close any JCPenney locations, but it's not entirely clear how the merger will ultimately affect shoppers. In the meantime, you may want to head over to your local JCPenney as soon as possible because its famous "pink tag" clearance sale is currently on, with all marked-down items ringing up for $3 and under.

What is JCPenney's pink tag sale?

"RUNNNN TO JCPENNEY! All pink tag clearance items $3!" wrote TikToker @savingswithsavv in a recent post.

Similar to the famous 49-cent sale at Ross, this clearance event isn't advertised by JCPenney itself but rather through word of mouth when shoppers start spotting the pink stickers. However, in a recent Reddit thread, JCPenney employees confirmed that there are more pink tags ("P5s," as they're officially called) than usual right now, likely because it's the post-holiday season.

One thing to keep in mind is that even if the price tag doesn't explicitly say $3, if it has a pink sticker, it will ring up this price, according to a YouTube video by shopping influencer @onecutecouponer. She also pointed out that $3 is the maximum price; some items she found were close to $1!

How to find the best deals during the pink tag sale.

However, to find the best deals, you'll have to be strategic.

"I went to all the different nooks and crannies of the store where they shove clearance items," shared @savingswithsavv. "And this is going to be in every department."

For example, @onecutecouponer found $3 bras when she dug through bins of intimates and kids' t-shirts for just $1.79 when she sorted through piles of clothes.

You may also find larger signs advertising the $3 items, as @onecutecouponer found above certain displays.

In a video posted two days ago, TikToker @daniellajo pointed out that some of the $3 items she found actually had blue tags. She recommends using the JCPenney app to scan bar codes and find out the final price of any clearance item with a colored sticker.

Bedding seems to have the biggest discounts.

Regarding where you'll find the biggest discounts, it seems the bedding department might take the cake.

For example, @daniellajo shared how she found a three-piece, king-sized comforter set from the brand Frye and Co. marked down from $285 to $3.

On her own hunt, @savingswithsavv found $170 Martha Stewart quilt sets and Forever 21 cooling sheet sets, all for $3.

Toys are also heavily marked down.

Children's toys also seem to be a big bargain area of the store. In fact, @savingswithsavv said nearly the entire toy aisle at her JCPenney was marked down to $3, including items from Melissa & Doug that were originally as much as $42. She also found Barbie and Disney toys for $3.

Clothing and shoes are $3, too.

Of course, clothing and shoes are also marked down to $3, and shoppers are finding amazing deals by sorting through the racks.

Some of the $3 steals @onecutecouponer found included $75 sparkly silver heels, $75 Frye and Co. sandals, $120 wedges, and $95 silver cowboy boots.

Also marked down to $3, she found $60 J. Ferrar men's dress shirts and $30 Adidas t-shirts, while @savingswithsavv spotted $35 men's Puma shirts.
