Besides trimming the tree or baking your favorite batch of cookies, most people tend to have a few Christmas movies they rewatch every year to really get into the spirit of the season. In many ways, these special films are so familiar to us that they can feel like a quick escape from the ordinary world—almost as if we’re living them. But if you’ve ever dreamed of taking things to the next level, you’re in luck: There are plenty of ways to experience some of your favorites beyond pressing play. Read on for some of the classic Christmas movies you can experience in real life.

After missing out on a trip to Paris, Kevin McAllister arguably strikes it big in the sequel when he accidentally ends up in New York City. Fortunately, you can check in to the Plaza Hotel just like him and enjoy the same lavish holiday vacation with the “Home Alone: Lost in New Jersey Experience.”

Besides getting to stay in a luxurious suite with an “extra large TV” per Kevin’s request, you’ll also get a ride to the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in a stretch limo—complete with a large cheese pizza and soda. Once there, you’ll take in a screening of the original holiday classic, followed by a Q&A session with none other than Macaulay Culkin.

Just make sure to be like Fuller and go easy on the Pepsi: You’ll be treated to an indulgent 16-scoop ice cream sundae with assorted toppings once you get back to your room.

Unfortunately, anyone who has dreamed of staying in Iris’s (Kate Winslet's) cottage from this Christmas rom-com is out of luck: The picturesque stone cottage was actually a shell built specifically for the movie and was dismantled as soon as filming finished. However, the charming English town where it takes place is very much real!

Shere—a tiny village in Surrey about an hour and a half south of London—has every ounce of charm in reality as it does on screen and was even featured in other movies like Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason and Four Weddings and a Funeral.

Fortunately, the website the protagonists use to swap their houses, HomeExchange.com, is also real. Whether or not you’ll wind up running into Jude Law and falling in love is not a guarantee, however.

Christmas shopping runs may be one thing, but it’s a little different when you’re swinging by the iconic department store that is prominently featured in this classic.

As the first department store to decorate its windows for the holidays, Macy’s still hasn’t lost its touch with ornate and awe-inspiring decorations you can take in from the street.

But if you really want to feel the Christmas spirit, guests can stop inside to visit Santaland, complete with a train ride to the North Pole and a visit with the big bearded man himself.

Shoppers can also get special and unique gifts from the store’s pop-up holiday market, which is launching for the first time this year with 30 different local and holiday vendors, 6sqft reports.

Every Saturday and Sunday from Thanksgiving through December 24, the town of Skaneateles in the Finger Lakes region of central New York transforms the entire town into England circa 1842.

Charles Dickens and his cast of 50 characters roam the streets in full period garb, interacting with passersby and regaling children with the tales of Ebenezer Scrooge.

There are horse-drawn carriages, carolers, free eggnog and roasted chestnuts, a visit from Father Christmas, and even a costumed recreation of Fezziwig’s Ball that all really make it feel like you're in whichever adaptation of the beloved book you choose.

5 | It’s a Wonderful Life

If you’re in the mood for a more contemporary classic, you won’t have to travel much farther than the Finger Lakes to get into the Christmas Spirit. The town of Seneca Falls—which served as the inspiration for the fictional Bedford Falls in the film—hosts an annual celebration of It’s a Wonderful Life.

There’s an audience participation screening of the classic movie, as well as a live radio play inspired by the film, special dinners, train rides, and more.

6 | A Christmas Story

Set in Hohman, Indiana, A Christmas Story was actually filmed in the Midwestern city of Cleveland. Now that the house in which it was filmed has been fully restored to its former glory, people have been visiting the Christmas Story House & Museum in the suburbs right outside the city to see the famous leg lamp with their own eyes.

The neighboring museum features tons of original props, costumes, and memorabilia from the film, including the toys from the Higbee's window, Randy's snowsuit, the chalkboard from Miss Shields' classroom, and the family cars. There are also hundreds of rare behind-the-scenes photos.

Over the last decade, the boom in Hallmark Christmas movies has helped to reinvigorate the genre, bringing tons of new titles to stream. This year, anyone who has ever wanted to step inside the picture-perfect world of these holiday-themed romantic movies can do so with the Hallmark Christmas Experience pop-up event in Kansas City, Missouri.

Each weekend leading up to Christmas, visitors can enjoy the Square, which hosts a holiday market, festive food hall, tree-lighting shows, and—naturally for Hallmark—a holiday card-sending station.

In addition to the holly, jolly activities, real fans can also look forward to movie screenings and panels featuring meet and greets with stars from some of the season’s biggest releases.

“The Hallmark Christmas Experience is really a way for us to immerse our fans in a Hallmark world,” Lindsey Roy, senior vice president of branded experiences for Hallmark, told USA Today. “Bringing the charm of a movie square to life, bringing the talent right to the doorstep, if you will. It's been something that we've dreamed of, and are so happy to make our fans happy because we love them.”
