Cher and 37-Year-Old Boyfriend Are Broken Up and Were Never Really Engaged, Source Says
The music icon showed off a diamond ring from Alexander Edwards last December.
After around six months together, it seems as though Cher and Alexander "A.E." Edwards have called it quits. According to multiple reports, the couple ended their relationship a few weeks ago. Before that, Cher regularly gushed about their relationship on social media, surprising fans with one reveal in particular: a large diamond ring that Edwards gifted her at Christmastime. But, while it seemed that the singer and much younger music executive might be engaged, sources are now saying that wasn't the case at all. They recently broke up.
TMZ reported on May 1 that Cher and Edwards had split up a couple of weeks ago. The outlet didn't have any information on why they broke up or who initiated the split.
Meanwhile, E! News reported that the split was amicable.
Best Life has reached out to representatives for Cher and Edwards for comment.
They were being purposely coy about the rumors.
While Cher and Edwards never announced an engagement, the rumors began when Cher posted about a ring Edwards gave her in December 2022. And they didn't deny those rumors, either.
A source told Us Weekly, "AE and Cher were never engaged and that ring he got her was just a gift. However, they had gotten very close and his son would even go over to Cher's house in Malibu to play. Their relationship was real and they split a few weeks ago. There's no bad blood between them and they're on good terms."
A TMZ source said that Edwards and Cher were purposely playing into the speculation about their relationship. A video posted on the site in January shows Cher showing off her ring to paparazzi. Even when asked, she doesn't clarify that they aren't engaged.

Either way, Cher swooned over the ring.
On Dec. 25, 2022, Cher posted a photo of a diamond ring on Twitter and wrote, "THERE R NO WORDS, ALEXANDER,A.E."
The 76-year-old then tweeted that she wished she could show the ring to her mother, Georgia Holt, who had died earlier that month.
"Woke up Min ago,& 1st thing …B4 I Opened my eyes,I Thought…I Need 2 Run To Moms & Show Her my ring… 'she Loves Diamonds.' Before I realized it," Cher wrote. "I Had Little Tear,But Im sure this is natural. Bet Moms ears were burning Last Nite.We were telling Stories about her,WHAT A WOMAN."
They started dating last fall.
Cher confirmed her relationship with Edwards, 37, in November 2022 and revealed they had met at Paris Fashion Week, which took place in September.
Responding to someone who pointed out their 40-year age difference, Cher tweeted, "LOVE DOESNT KNOW MATH, IT SEES [heart emojis]."
Cher also responded to fans who expressed concern about the relationship, with some pointing out that Edwards had previously admitted to cheating on model Amber Rose, with whom he has a child.
"As we All Know …I WASNT BORN YESTERDAY, & What I Know For Sure…There Are No Guarantees," Cher wrote in response to someone who said they were "suspicious of his intentions." She continued, "Anytime you make a Choice You Take a Chance. I've Always Taken Chances…It's WHO I Am."
