Generally speaking, sending a text to your ex the day before your wedding is usually not a good move. You're probably envisioning a long, romantic comedy-esque soliloquy of a message to The One That Got Away, right? Well, recently, Twitter user Alexsa Sanchez Aguilarshared a very different kind of text message that she received from an ex on the eve of his nuptials, and it's going mega viral.

Aguilar's ex texted to tell her that he was getting married the following day and that his bride-to-be was aware of him reaching out to her.

"Thank you for being my first love," he wrote. "Thank you for always encouraging me, thank you for keeping me out of trouble, thank you for the times you took care of me when I was sick, and depressed. Thank you for loving me."

He went on to tell Aguilar that he hopes she meets a man who is worthy of her and treats her with care, love, and loyalty, because she deserves that and more.

"If you loved me that much when we were young, I can only imagine how strong and powerful your love is now," he wrote. "The way your heart is made, it's amazing. I know we were only kids when we dated, but you taught me what love is."

He ended the text by letting Aguilar know that she helped make him the man he is today and achieve all the happiness he has.

"My point in all of this is, you are the reason I know how to love someone," he wrote. "You taught me to love, you taught me to deal with anger, how to deal with my depression and how to live life to the fullest and I'm grateful for you. I wish you love and happiness."

The tweet quickly garnered more than 98,000 retweets, and many people were touched by Aguilar's ex's appreciation for the time they spent together.

Some, however, thought it was a bit rude to essentially let her know that she had done all of the work just for another woman to reap the benefits.

And others doubted whether or not the bride really knew about the text.

Aguilar responded to the backlash by saying she knows the bride, who was completely fine with the exchange.

She also added that the reason they broke up was because they were very young. She said they supported one another through their best friend's suicide, which is why there's still so much mutual respect between them.

"I started crying when I read the text—it warmed my heart that I helped him be a better version of himself," Aguilar told BuzzFeed. "I wanted to show that just because things don't work out with someone, that doesn't mean you should have hate towards them. Regardless of everything, you were meant to be a part of that person's life, and them, yours."
