When stars share a picture in their bikini on Instagram, they're likely to cause a media stir—especially when it's an accomplished A-lister like Salma Hayek. During a recent interview, Hayek revealed the surprising backstory about some revealing photos she's posted to her Instagram recently. Read on to learn the truth she shared about her bikini pics.

Salma Hayek admitted that her bikini photos are not current.

Over the past few months, Hayek has been one of the reigning queens of the bathing suit Instagram post. But during a June 8 interview with InStyle, the actor admitted that the bikini photos she's been posting over the past few months are actually from last year. Hayek said she took all the photos over one week during a Christmas vacation trip. The star banked the stunning pics for later use, anticipating the weight she'd be gaining for her role in the upcoming Ridley Scott film House of Gucci. "I don't have any shame in telling you this because I'm excited that I even got to that point," Hayek said. "For a week, I looked like that, you know?"

In February, Hayek told Entertainment Tonight she "had to lose a lot of weight and exercise to get into the bikini towards the end of last year," so she's glad she documented her success. As she told the outlet, "I'm not in the same condition today, and I'm spreading the love out like every two weeks," but she added that she'll soon run out of throwback photos.

Hayek said she started gaining weight right after the photos were taken.

By New Year's, Hayek had shifted to taking selfies from the shoulders up, according to InStyle. "It was not even the end of the holiday yet, and I was like, 'OK, bring me caftans!" she recalled. The actor said she enjoyed putting on the weight for her recent role. "I was in Italy, and it was like a dream come true. You’re in Rome, and you’re in a movie, and it’s the rounder you are, the better it is for your character. That to me was nirvana," Hayek told Variety. "I swear I would order with a smile on my face: ‘I’ll have the pasta again.’ I love pasta. And it would come, and it would be like guilt-free."

Naturally, Hayek hasn't enjoyed trying to lose the weight as much. The actor told InStyle that she's "lost very little." She added that, "You gain it so fast, but it takes so long to lose it."

But the star is happy with her body.

Although Hayek has to battle with the expectations she says come with being in Hollywood, she's happy with her body. Given "how much mileage I put on my body and how much pressure and judgment I put on it, my body has been incredibly generous," she told InStyle. "I don't think I am some hot tamale, but I know that for my age, for the lifestyle that I lived, I'm not doing too badly."

Hayek told InStyle that she attributes her health and her ability to accept things in part to meditation. She said her meditation consists of a combination of breathing techniques she's began doing since her late 30s to combat lower back pain. "It makes you experience your body with a lightness that's really delicious and satisfying," Hayek said. "With the breathing and the going inside, you explore your body in a different way, and you learn not to go crazy with the expectations."
