It's almost always a bummer when a Hollywood couple who had seemed solid breaks up, which is one of the reasons why the 2020 split of Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis was a major celebrity news story. Despite claims that the relationship had just run its course and the former pair were still friends, new romances have led to conjecture about what happened between the stars and where they stand now. On Sunday night, an exchange between the exes (plus a sneaky visual aid) seemed to push back against reports that they're not on good terms. Keep reading to find out what Wilde and Sudeikis had to say about each other, and for another talked-about former couple, here's Angelina Jolie Just Made a Rare Comment About Her Split From Brad Pitt.

Last night, Sudeikis gave a big shout out to Wilde while collecting another award for his beloved comedy series.

Sudeikis' Apple+ show Ted Lasso cleaned up at the virtual Critics Choice Awards on Sunday night, winning Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Hannah Waddingham), Best Actor in a Comedy Series (Sudeikis), and Best Comedy Series. In his speech for the series award, Sudeikis, who is the show's co-creator in addition to being its star, thanked his ex for being the reason he started to develop Ted Lasso in the first place.

"I want to thank my kids, Otis and Daisy, and I want to thank their mom, Olivia, who had the initial idea for this as a TV show," Sudeikis said. (The character of Ted Lasso was originally created by Sudeikis and his collaborators for a series of commercials for NBC Sports.) "She was like, 'You guys like doing that so much, you should do it as a movie or a TV show,' and she was right!"

And Wilde returned the love.

Wilde responded to Sudeikis' show of gratitude with an effusive tweet, and she even made reference to her former fiancé's low-key awards show attire (Sudeikis famously wore a tie-dye hooded sweatshirt to accept his Golden Globe last weekend and donned another one for the CCAs).

"Congrats to Jason and the entire Ted Lasso family on your @CriticsChoice wins!" Wilde tweeted, tagging Sudeikis, Waddingham, and co-creators Brendan Hunting, Joe Kelly, and Bill Lawrence. "So happy for you guys. I hope this means we all keep wearing hoodies when the ceremonies are in person next year." She punctuated the tweet with the double raised hands emoji.

And as Showbiz CheatSheet reports, the sweatshirt Sudeikis chose for last night's event was also a subtle show of support for Wilde. It featured the logo of Crockett High School, the fictional school in Wilde's feature directorial debut Booksmart, in which he played a small role.

News broke in November that the long-time couple had split months earlier.

It seemed the exes were sending a quiet message to the public and the media that there's no bad blood between them after their breakup. News broke in Nov. 2020 that Sudeikis and Wilde had ended their eight-year engagement, but an anonymous source told People that the split had actually occurred months earlier, at the beginning of 2020.

"It's been amicable and they’ve transitioned into a great co-parenting routine," the source claimed. "The children are the priority and the heart of the family’s relationship."

And the plot thickened a couple months later.

Matters complicated in January of 2021, when Wilde was photographed holding hands with Harry Styles, who co-stars in her second feature as a director, Don't Worry Darling, at the wedding of his manager. After that, outlets including Page Six speculated that Sudeikis and Wilde's split was more dramatic than originally claimed, that her budding relationship with Styles was actually the nail in coffin, and that Sudeikis was "distraught."

Meanwhile, it's been reported that Sudeikis is dating Keeley Hazell, an actor and model who's appeared on Ted Lasso.

Neither Sudeikis nor Wilde has come forward publicly to confirm a timeline or version of events, preferring to keep the details of their breakup private. But based on their Critics Choice Awards' lovefest, it seems this former couple has no bad blood.
