It’s that time of year again, where Apple does their whole ‘out with the old, in with the new’ routine. The company announced the new iPhone 16, but also discontinued several items, some barely a year or so old. The new phone is also not selling as well as Apple hoped, as the basic iPhone models are still very good quality. “Given that this is largely a software upgrade cycle, my concern is that there were a greater mix of sales in the lower price iPhone 16 than the higher price devices,” CFRA Research technology analyst Angelo Zino tells CNN. “When you look at the standard devices, they got a really great upgrade in terms of their cameras and internal processors.” Here are 7 products and lines Apple just ditched.

Apple has reportedly discontinued the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. While you can still buy the phones from third party sellers, you can no longer get them through Apple. “While this isn’t necessarily a shock, considering Apple discontinues its Pro model iPhones every year, it does handcuff new buyers wanting to use Apple Intelligence, Apple’s suite of AI tools,” says TechRadar. ‘Until this week, the only iPhones capable of the upcoming Apple Intelligence features like proofreading, Genmoji, and Siri’s overhaul were the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, but now you can’t buy them from Apple anymore.”

Apple has also discontinued the iPhone 13, their last phone with a physical SIM card. “The iPhone 13 was noteworthy at its introduction for its smaller notch, along with a new camera system,” says Apple Insider. “It originally sold for $799, but was discounted down to $599 when the iPhone 15 was introduced.”
AirPods Max with Lightning
ShutterstockAirpods Max now have a USB-C port instead of Lightning, which makes older models obsolete. The first-gen AirPods Max are currently on sale at Best Buy.
AirPods 2 and 3
Airpods 2 and 3 are now obsolete. “The regular Airpods 2 and AirPods 3 have also been replaced with two new models of AirPods 4,” says Apple Insider. “The $129 version features a new design, an upgrade to the H2 chip, and support for personalized spatial audio with dynamic head tracking.”
FineWoven accessories

Apple has discontinued their FineWoven accessories line. This isn’t much of a surprise—there were plenty of complaints about the quality and durability of the products. “Maybe FineWoven would be acceptable in a less expensive case. Or maybe if Apple had never called it ‘durable,’ I could accept it. But for $59? On a phone case that needs to stand up to daily abuse? Absolutely not,” according to The Verge.
