As the most nurturing zodiac sign, Cancer is loyal (almost to a fault) and will do just about anything to keep others safe. They're sensitive water signs, but they'll stand up for their loved ones without question.

If anyone messes with those closest to them, these crabs use their hard shells and big claws to protect them, says Stina Garbis, astrologer and owner of Psychic Stina.

As a passionate fire sign, Leos are fiercely protective. "They have a huge roar and would definitely let you have it if you put anything or anyone that is dear to them in danger," says Garbis.

They're not only willing to protect others, but they also have a reputation to uphold and will quickly come to their own defense if they feel they're being attacked.

No one values stability and security quite like a Taurus, which is why these earth signs hate leaving their comfort zone. It's also why they're so loyal and such a calming presence. With these qualities, it's not surprising that they have a protective side.

"They are always ready to stand as a solid shield for their family and friends, ensuring their well-being at all costs," says Raquel Rodriguez, astrologer and founder of Your Zodiac. Picture a determined bull guarding its herd—that's a Taurus protecting their loved ones, she adds.

Besides being dedicated worker bees, Capricorns value family above anything else. They aren't aggressive, but they'll cut you down with words if you get in the way of their success or come for those closest to them.

"They take the safety and security of their loved ones very seriously, often assuming the role of the protector in their relationships, says Rodriguez.

This is the same reason they often find themselves in leadership roles at the workplace. They ensure that everyone is well provided for and won't run away in difficult times.

Messing with a brooding and intense Scorpio is in no one's best interest. Once they care about someone, they will go to the ends of the earth to make sure they're protected at all costs.

"Being the Scorpion, they have a stinger at the end of their tail and are not afraid to use it," says Garbis. They have no problem planning revenge schemes or going to extremes if something doesn't go their way.

But as a water sign, they have an emotional awareness that clues them into what others need, so they also have a soft side.

Aries are warriors at heart. And while they won't say no to a fight, they also readily take on the role of guardian or caretaker. It's these things that easily make them the most protective zodiac sign.

Rodriguez says Aries' protective instinct is deeply intertwined with their fiery and passionate nature. They can definitely offer physical protection, but they'll also be there to cheer you on or give you the motivation to keep going when you're in a rut.

It's true that Aries can be a little intense or aggressive, but when push comes to shove, they won't let you down.
