Megan Fox Slams Ex Brian Austin Green for Posting a Photo of Their Kid

"I know you love your kids. But I don't know why you can't stop using them to posture via Instagram."

Transformers star Megan Fox and Beverly Hills, 90210 alum Brian Austin Green had their ups and downs as a couple, right up until this spring, when the latter confirmed that they had split up for good. And it seems that their breakup isn't entirely amicable. On Nov. 1, Green posted a snap of himself and the former couple's youngest child, four-year-old Journey, on his Instagram with a Halloween-related caption. Fox commented with a lengthy takedown, accusing her ex of using their children to improve his image and taking him to task for posting them on social media at all. Here's what led up to this latest spat, why Fox thinks Green is "feeding the pervasive narrative that [she's] an absent mother," and how Green responded. The pair's buzzy relationship dates back to 2004.

Fox and Green met when he guest-starred on Fox's sitcom Hope & Faith in 2004. They hit it off, despite a 13-year age difference, and got engaged in 2006.

They broke up a few times before the split stuck.

The actors called off their first engagement in 2009; Fox later told Us Weekly (via Glamour) that 23 was too young to settle down and "be someone's wife." Yet, just one year later, they secretly tied the knot in Hawaii. Their first child together, Noah, arrived in 2012. They welcomed Bodhi in 2014. In 2015, Fox filed for divorced after news broke that the pair had separated. A year later, they revealed they were back together after Fox shared that she was pregnant with their third child, Journey.

Fox requested that their divorce filing be dismissed in 2019, suggesting that both stars were in it for the long haul. But this May, on his podcast …With Brian Austin Green, Green told fans that the marriage was over and had been since the end of last year.

"We've had an amazing relationship," he said. "I will always love her. And I know she will always love me, and I know as far as a family, what we have built is really cool and really special."

Fox moved on.

After Fox worked with musician Machine Gun Kelly on the movie Midnight in the Switchgrass and starred in a steamy music video for one of his songs, all signs were pointing to them being an item. They had dropped hints on social media and been spotted out together, but the direct confirmation came when they were both on the podcast Give Them Lala … With Randall in July.

"We're actually two halves of the same soul," Fox said of her new partner. "I said that to him almost immediately, because I felt it right away."

The Halloween Instagram proved to be a breaking point.

Throughout their sometimes tumultuous relationship, Fox and Green have kept things pretty friendly as far as what they share with the public. (Minus some petty Instagram captions.) But Green's Nov. 1 Halloween post, which showed him and their youngest child in costume, prompted Fox to leave a scathing reply. She wrote:

"Why does Journey have to be in this picture? It's not hard to crop them out. Or choose photos that they aren't in. I had a great halloween with them yesterday, and yet notice how absent they are from my social media. You're so intoxicated with feeding the pervasive narrative that I'm an absent mother, and you are the perennial, eternally dedicated dad of the year. You have them half of the time. Congratulations you truly are a remarkable human! Why do you need the internet to echo back to you what should be inexhaustibly evident in the way your children love you?"

While he didn't reply to Fox's comment, the 90210 star deleted the photo that she objected to and reposted a cropped version with the caption, "Hope you all had a happy Halloween!!!" Before that, actor Vanessa Marcil, with whom Green shares his oldest child, Kassius, made an Instagram post that seemed to show solidarity with Fox. "Like I said…the Truth always comes out in the end…" the posted text reads. In the caption, Marcil hashtagged "ImWithYouSister." So don't be surprised if you start to see a lot less of Green's children on his social media going forward.
