If you love shopping and are looking to bring in extra cash, listen up. Amazon has a program that allows shoppers to review and recommend products to other potential shoppers—and when they click "purchase," you get a commission. Success rates are so high that shoppers say they’ve been able to pay off their mortgages and bills with their earnings. Keep reading to learn more about the program that has TikTokers mind blown.

What is the Amazon Influencer Program?

"As an Amazon Influencer, we give you the tools you need to select the best of Amazon’s products and services, easily recommend them to your followers, and earn commissions on qualifying purchases," reads the official sign-up page.

To achieve this, you’ll have to set up an Amazon storefront, which is where all your shoppable photos and videos will live. Amazon may also choose to feature your content on its website, bringing more eyeballs (read: potential commission) to your page. You can also bump your sales by including your storefront URL in your social media bio and via affiliate links.

Do you have to be a social media influencer to join?

Not necessarily. However, Amazon says it does take "the number of followers you have in addition to other engagement metrics" for Instagram and Facebook applications. It’s important to note that your Instagram and/or Facebook account must be set to a business account. Alternatively, you can apply with a YouTube or TikTok account.

If you don’t already have an Amazon shopping account, you’ll need to make one first; you can also make a new account if you want to keep your side hustle separate from your personal Amazon page. An application to the Amazon Influencer Program can be accessed here.

How much money can you make?

As with any commission-based job, your income is dependent on how much you work. So, if you’re only uploading one or two shoppable videos per month, you can expect a smaller return than someone posting new content weekly or daily. Amazon does have fixed commission rates for specific product categories, which gives an idea of how much you could be making. Here is a breakdown of how much you can accrue per purchase, organized by category.

  • Amazon Games: 20%
  • Luxury Beauty, Luxury Stores Beauty, Amazon Explore: 10%
  • Amazon Haul: 7%
  • Physical/Digital Music, Handmade, Digital Videos: 5%
  • Physical Books, Kitche, Automotive: 4.5%
  • Amazon Fire Tablet Devices, Amazon Kindle Devices, Amazon Fashion Women's, Men's & Kids Private Label, Luxury Stores Fashion, Apparel, Amazon Cloud Cam Devices, Fire TV Edition Smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV Devices, Amazon Echo Devices, Ring Devices, Watches, Jewelry, Luggage, Shoes, and Handbags & Accessories: 4%
  • Toys, Furniture, Home, Home Improvement, Lawn & Garden, Pets Products, Headphones, Beauty, Musical Instruments, Business & Industrial Supplies, Outdoors, Tools, Sports, and Baby Products: 3%
  • TVs and Digital Video Games: 2%

Real-life shoppers say it’s a long-term game.

Slow and steady wins the race, say Amazon influencers. The program is "not a get-rich-quick scheme," TikToker @shopbykayy emphasized in a viral video. In fact, it could take several months until your storefront starts building monetary momentum.

During her first year as an Amazon influencer, @shopbykayy was making about $15 to $600 per month. She had posted 420 videos in the span of about 10 months. "While it is possible to earn extra money with Amazon reviews, I do not want anyone to think that they’re going to make $5,000 in their first month because that’s just not how it works," she reiterated.

But if $5,000 per month is your goal, take advantage of affiliate links and post more videos to your storefront, she said. In 2024, @shopbykayy made $27,000 through affiliate marketing across all platforms, including Amazon.
