Twitter Unites to Help Woman Find Lost Scarf, Restores Our Faith in Humanity

Social media to the rescue!

Maybe it's because the holidays are upon us, or maybe it's that people are just much better than we tend to believe, but social media has been bursting lately with stories of strangers using the power of the Internet to do a little good in the world.

Two weeks ago, Twitter users helped reunite a woman with her long-lost best friend in just under 12 hours. And many of the victims of the devastating California wildfire have been reunited with their beloved pets solely thanks to the efforts of sympathetic individuals willing to scroll through hundreds of posts to help find them.

On Wednesday, British TV presenter Kirstie Allsopp put up a tweet saying that she had lost her scarf and was wondering if anyone happened to stumble upon it, though she realized the chances of ever finding it again were highly unlikely.

Now, granted, a scarf isn't a pet or a human being, but it was a present from a dear friend, so she was pretty upset about it, and we all know how that feels.

The Twitter account for Central Line, one of the lines for London's underground transit system, immediately retweeted her post, as did hundreds of others.

Here's the twist. Earlier that morning, a woman named Emma Revell put up a Twitter post saying she had found a scarf on the train and was hoping to reunite it with its owner.

"If you're one of two ladies who got off the Central Line at Liverpool Street around 10am this morning and dropped a black scarf with a rainbow pattern, I have it! It has some stitching detail so I suspect it might have sentimental value," she wrote.

And, luckily for Allsopp, a bunch of people saw both of the tweets and put two and two together.

Allsopp was thrilled, and not just because the scarf meant a lot to her.

It might not seem like much, but when people take the time out to do something like this, it never fails to remind us that people aren't as selfish as they seem.

And sometimes little things like this can really turn someone's mood around.
