If the commercials are to be believed, Indeed makes finding a new job a simple, pleasant experience, full of chipper HR professionals and same-day responses. But for those of us who have actually been in the trenches of job hunting, we know this couldn't be further from the truth. From getting ghosted by hiring managers to completing CIA-level interview processes, the employment landscape can feel like a battlefield. But according to one recruiter, you're "wasting your time" using Indeed.
"If you're still using Indeed as your go-to for job searching, it's time for a reality check," says Deepali Vyas, better known as the Elite Recruiter, in a recent TikTok video. "There are better options out there that can actually help you land high-quality opportunities."
"Indeed might work for entry-level or if you're just starting out. But for professionals looking for serious roles, you're wasting your time," she continues. "Why? Because most of the best jobs, especially the mid- to senior-level, aren't even posted there. They're either on specialized platforms or found through professional networks."
So, where do you look for jobs instead? Here are Vyas' top six recommendations.

1. LHH Recruitment Solutions
2. FlexJobs
Looking for remote, hybrid, or flexible work? FlexJobs should be your go-to "across industries," advises Vyas.
The job postings on this site are all vetted, and it offers customer service from real humans—but for the full Flex Jobs database, you'll have to sign up for a paid subscription, which ranges from $6 to $10 a month.
3. Wellfound
Wellfound used to be AngelList Talent, but regardless of the name change, it's still the place to go for "startups and VC-backed roles," says Vyas.
This site is unique because you create a profile once and then can apply for jobs with one click. Job posters are also required to share salary and stock options. Founders can even contact you directly about job opportunities if they're impressed with your profile.

4. Ladders
Next on Vyas' list is Ladders, "tailored for six-figure jobs and executive-level roles."
In addition to the salary minimum, the unique thing here is Ladders' Apply4Me option, which allows job seekers to submit an application once and have the site apply to jobs automatically.
5. Behance
For targeted creative opportunities, check out Behance, suggests Vyas. This site provides job listings and freelance roles for graphic designers, photographers, video editors, web designers, and illustrators.
It lets you create a profile, where potential employers can see your work. There's also an Etsy-esque element, where users can sell downloadable assets.
6. Dribble
Dribble is another site that helps designers to showcase their portfolios, search for jobs, and bid on projects.
