8 Real Housewives Arrested for Being Under the Influence
Real Housewives of Orange County star Shannon Beador is just one of them.
There's always plenty of drama onscreen when it comes to the Real Housewives franchise. But sometimes, the most serious issues involving the reality stars take place when the cameras aren't rolling. At this point, a number of Real Housewives stars have been arrested, including for being under the influence. Some women were arrested for driving while intoxicated, while others ran into trouble with the law for being intoxicated in public.
As fans of the shows know, these aren't the only kind of legal charges Real Housewives have faced. Two of the highest profile cases ended with Housewives serving time in prison. Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice served time on fraud charges, and Salt Lake City star Jen Shah is currently in prison, also for fraud.
The reality stars who were arrested for being under the influence faced less serious charges, but some of them still had to accept the consequences, including probation and rehab. Read on to find out more about eight Bravolebrities who were arrested for their drinking.
The latest arrest in the Bravo world is that of Real Housewives of Orange County star Shannon Beador. People reported that, according to the Newport Beach Police Department, Beador was "arrested at 1:17 a.m. on Sept. 17 after fleeing the scene from a collision that caused property damage." She was "booked for two misdemeanors—hit-and-run and DUI alcohol" and released on a citation. Page Six reported that Beador hit a house with her car.
"I spent quite a bit of time with Shannon yesterday. She is extremely apologetic and remorseful," her lawyer told People. "We will be awaiting the official information on this case as it becomes available, and Shannon is prepared to accept full responsibility for her actions."
Luann de Lesseps
On Christmas Eve 2017, Luann de Lesseps was arrested in Palm Beach, Florida on charges of battery of a police officer, disorderly intoxication, resisting arrest with violence, and corruption by threat, as reported by NBC News. When she was arrested, the Real Housewives of New York City star had entered the incorrect hotel room while intoxicated and then gotten into an altercation with police who were trying to get her to leave. De Lesseps quickly apologized and also checked into a rehabilitation center.
The reality star ended up accepting a plea deal and, according to People, was sentenced to a year of probation, attendance at Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and a class organized by Mothers Against Drunk Driving, 50 hours of community service, and ordered to not possess or consume alcohol or illegal drugs.
Original Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kim Richards was arrested in 2015. As reported by the Los Angeles Times, Richards had been asked to leave the restaurant at the Beverly Hills Hotel for reportedly causing a scene, but she requested to go to the restroom first and would not come out. A police officer claimed that she had to be physically removed from the restroom. Richards was "arrested on suspicion of public intoxication, trespassing, resisting an officer and battery on a police officer and was released on $20,000 bail."
At that point, Richards' struggles with alcohol had already been documented on RHOBH, and she had previously been to rehab. According to Reuters, she was sentenced to three years of probation, 30 days of community service, and AA meetings.
This was not the end of the legal troubles for Richards, however. Only a few months later, she was arrested for shoplifting at Target and received a similar sentence of probation and community service, according to E! News.
Real Housewives of New York City's Sonja Morgan was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated in Southampton, New York in 2010. According to CBS News, after being pulled over, she was also accused of driving without wearing a seatbelt, failing to keep right, and failing to obey a stop sign. Extra reported that she failed a series of sobriety tests and refused to take a breathalyzer test. Her lawyer told CBS News he planned to "vigorously defend her." No further information about Morgan's arrest or the aftermath was made public.
Gina Kirschenheiter from The Real Housewives of Orange County was arrested in 2019 for driving under the influence after she was stopped for a traffic violation.
"I made a very bad choice the other night after a mom's night out," she said in a statement published by People. "I am extremely disappointed in myself and regret my actions wholeheartedly. I have learned a valuable lesson and hope to show you all that this one incident does not define me."
As reported by E! News, Kirschenheiter pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of alcohol and a misdemeanor count of driving with a blood alcohol level of .08 percent or higher. She was sentenced to three years of probation, 20 hours of community service, and ordered to take a six-month alcohol program.
In 2016, Real Housewives of Potomac star Karen Huger admitted that she was arrested for driving under the influence 10 years prior when she was on her way home from having dinner.
"I pulled over. Technically I wasn't driving, I was pulled over into a parked area where you should not park," she told Bossip. "I turned off the car and I called my husband. However, the teddy bear cops found me first, and I collected my DUI."
According to Bossip, Huger pleaded guilty to driving while impaired by alcohol and was sentenced to probation.
Another Housewife who was arrested prior to her time on the show was Brandi Glanville, who was charged with driving under the influence and driving with a blood alcohol level higher than .08 percent, as reported by TMZ. The arrest came in 2010. She began appearing on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills in 2011.
"I messed up," she posted on Twitter (now X) as reported by People. "I take full responsibility for my actions. I regret my bad choice, and am thankful to God that no one got hurt. I'm sorry."
In 2011, Radar Online reported that Glanville pleaded no contest to driving with a blood alcohol level above .08 percent, and was sentenced to three years in prison, a $390 fine, and a three-month alcohol program.
Marysol Patton was arrested just prior to the February 2011 premiere of her show, The Real Housewives of Miami. Two months earlier, Patton was arrested in December 2010 on suspicion of driving under the influence. As reported by the Daily Mail, she pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of reckless driving and was fined $1,000.
