Over 38,000 people are killed in car accidents ever year in the U.S., per the Association for Safe International Road Travel. Every time you sit behind the wheel, you're taking on some risk and hoping to not become part of that statistic. But not all car rides are created equal, and some are far more dangerous than others. Fortunately, we now know which roads to avoid when striving to stay safe thanks to some newly released research on the deadliest highway in every state.
Using data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Federal Highway Administration, fleet vehicle tracking company Geotab determined which routes are the riskiest across the U.S. by finding the highway with the greatest fatal crash rate—the percentage of total crashes on that freeway that have resulted in death. Read on to find out which of your state's highways you might want to avoid on future road trips.
