Amanda Bynes Says She's Been "Sober for Over a Year"
In a new Instagram video, Amanda Bynes said that she was one year sober and apologies for past behavior.
Former Nickelodeon star Amanda Bynes, 33, announced that she and her fiancé, Paul Michael, were one year sober in a new Instagram video she posted on Thursday night.
Bynes has a well-publicized history with substance abuse and reckless on and off-line behavior. In 2013, she went on an infamous Twitter rant in which she called a variety of celebrities and public figures "ugly," including then-President and First Lady Barack and Michelle Obama.
"I just wanted to post a video to say I'm sorry to everyone whom I called ugly on Twitter," she in the new video. "I was feeling so ugly at the time and it was really hard for me to express myself at the time because I was so drugged out. And now I've remained sober for over a year—same with Paul—and I just want to let you know that I love you guys and I'm so happy now. I feel like I got what's mine and that is Paul."
Last weekend, Bynes surprised fans by announcing that she was engaged, but she didn't reveal Paul's identity until her latest video.
In her most recent video, she called Paul "drop-dead gorgeous" and said he was "the best person on the face of the earth." She also thanked her followers for supporting her and said she was going to college and is hoping to release a new clothing line soon.
Bynes joins a wave of celebrities who have gotten clean in the wake of the sober curious movement. In late January, Jessica Simpson opened up about getting sober in 2017. And recently, punk rock icon Courtney Love announced that she was 18 months sober at the NME Awards.
