Walmart is getting a facelift in 2025. The massive overhaul is part of Walmart’s "investing in America" program, in which the company hopes to create "tens of thousands of jobs" and "reach and serve even more customers," per the initial press release. Now, the retailer is sharing which locations will be among the first to be remodeled.

Walmart operates 4,605 stores across the country, 650 of which will get the company’s "Store of the Future" treatment this year. So, what can shoppers come to expect? The retailer is increasing its inventory selection with expanded departments (i.e., pets, clothing, electronics, etc.), and zhuzhing up these sections with "big, bold signage" and new displays that "better showcase merchandise," according to CoStar News.
"Customers love this concept in the places we’ve already rolled it out, and we’re excited to transition more and more of our fleet," John Furner, president and CEO of Walmart U.S., said previously.
Since COVID-19, Walmart has experienced a boom in online orders. To keep up with demand, the chain is expanding its pickup and delivery zones. Walmart’s pharmacies will also get a modern facelift. The redesign will include wider aisles (no more bumper carts!), new private screening rooms, and restructured checkout stations for added confidentiality.
"Our stores often serve as the heartbeat of the communities we operate in, and these remodels are a testament to our dedication to enhancing that role," said Annie Walker, Walmart’s East Business Unit senior vice president, in a statement per Lohud. "By investing in our stores and associates, we are not only improving the shopping experience but also reinforcing our commitment to being a vital part of the community's fabric, helping to build a brighter future for all."

In an email to CoStar News, a Walmart spokesperson confirmed that 67 Texas locations, including those in San Antonio, Houston, and Dallas-Fort Worth, will be revamped in 2025—the most of any U.S. state or Puerto Rico. Each of these reopenings is said to be "a multimillion-dollar project." Additionally, Texas is getting brand-new Walmart Supercenters in Cypress, Frisco, Melissa, and Celina.
Sacramento, San Jose, Mountain View, Bakersfield, and Modesto stores are among the 57 remodels in California. Walmart is also remodeling 41 stores in North Carolina, including in Charlotte, Fayetteville, Asheville, and Durham. In Ohio, 23 stores will be upgraded.
Walmart is renovating a significant number of its Florida locations; 34 store remodels will be completed in major cities such as Miami, Delray Beach, Tallahassee, Orlando, Jupiter, and Daytona Beach. Meanwhile, the company is building over 20 stores in Georgia.
In New York, 23 Walmart locations will be renovated. The retailer has plans to remodel four stores in New Jersey.
