This Star Got Kicked Out of James Corden's Wedding for Being Too Drunk

Corden admitted that the belligerent guest was "the star of our wedding, in many ways."

When James Corden tied the knot with Julia Carey in 2012, it wasn't rain, catering mishaps, or a misplaced ring that threatened to ruin the nuptials. In fact, it was none other than The Crown star Matt Smith, who admitted to behaving so badly at the wedding that he had to be escorted out. Read on to discover why Smith became persona non grata at the celebration, and for more awkward interactions this late-night host has had, check out James Corden Says This Is the Rudest Celebrity He's Ever Met.

According to Corden, Smith's drunken behavior was so outrageous that guests couldn't keep their eyes off of the actor. "You were, I think, the star of our wedding in many ways," Corden joked when he had Smith on The Late Late Show With James Corden in 2018. "Do you remember anything about that day?'

Smith admitted that, in an inebriated state, he had gotten a scar on his chin from falling on a staircase at the wedding. "I fell in a fire[place] twice…I danced with Kylie Minogue, which was glorious, and then your dad put me in a car and was like, 'Come on, Matt, son, it's time,'" Smith said. But after being taken away by Corden's father, Smith admitted to escaping from the car and running back into the party.

"It was a good wedding!" Corden laughed.

Smith isn't the only star who's had some questionable interactions with the Late Late Show host, however. Read on to discover which celebrities Corden has butted heads with over the years. During a segment of "Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts" with Khloe Kardashian in 2017, Corden said that Pierce Brosnan had pushed him out of the way at a U2 concert after Corden and his friends moved into the space the James Bond star had previously been standing in. "I don't think he's a rude man, he just happened to be [to me]," Corden said. During another "Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts" segment with Demi Moore in 2019, Corden called out Rick Ross for being his worst Late Late Show guest. Corden explained that his staff had sent over a bit that Ross had previously approved, where the rapper sang an altered version of his hit single "Hustlin'" in which the subject matter was changed to be about binge-watching TV. When Ross was supposed to rehearse the bit, he left the studio and never returned. And for more regrettable guests, check out The Worst "Late Night" Guest Conan O'Brien Ever Had.

Patrick Stewart

While presenting together at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards in 2010, Corden and Sir Patrick Stewart got into a surprising tiff that ended in body-shaming and ageist jabs. Stewart apparently took issue with the way Corden was standing at the lectern with him, telling the comic, "When the recipients are receiving their awards, don't stand at the back of the stage with your hands in your pockets looking around as though you wish you were anywhere but here," said Stewart. Corden replied, "When you come up and present an award, just f***ing get on with it."

After Stewart made some body-shaming comments directed at Corden, the late night host said, "Can we get a taxi ready, please? The old man is going home!"

Despite the sketch being a major hit, Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher had nothing but bad things to say about Corden's beloved "Carpool Karaoke" segment. During a 2017 interview with GQ, Gallagher said there was "no f***ing chance" he would ever appear in the bit, before lobbing another body-shaming comment Corden's way.

However, later that same year, Gallagher performed on the Late Late Show, having seemingly had a change of heart about the host. "I gotta say he's a fine chap," Gallagher tweeted. "Got that 1 wrong."
