VanderWaal recently debuted her buzzed hair and bold makeup on social media.

On Dec. 20, VanderWaal shared an image on Instagram showcasing her shaved head and geometric lines drawn on her face, one across the ridge of her nose and the other down her eyebrow. Some fans speculated that they were tattoos, however, the next day, VanderWaal shared a TikTok video and they appeared to be gone. But she did add a dramatic element to her look by dying her buzz cut hot pink. On Dec. 4, VanderWaal invited fans to watch her style transformation, sharing a video of herself getting her head shaved by a friend with dog clippers. "I did it," she captioned the Instagram post.

VanderWaal started performing at a young age, posting videos of her original music and cover songs on YouTube. In 2016, the doe-eyed tween got her big break when she made it onto the 11th season of America's Got Talent with judge Howie Mandel pressing the golden buzzer for her. She then dazzled fans with her unique voice and superior string skills, winning first place. The same year, she released an EP, Perfectly Imperfect, with Columbia Records that featured the hit original song she auditioned with, "I Don't Know My Name." Running on the steam of her big AGT win, VanderWaal dropped her first album, Just the Beginning, in 2017. The album peaked at No. 22 on the Billboard 200 music chart.
