Rom-Com Fans Rejoice! Hugh Grant Announces He's Finally Getting Married
The long-time bachelor is finally settling down at age 57.
He was the shining star of 90s-era romantic comedies, playing the lead in dozens of roles that made women swoon. But Hugh Grant himself has always led the life of a bachelor—until now.
As all of Britain was in a tizzy over the royal wedding, the 57-year-old actor quietly announced that he was engaged to Swedish producer Anna Eberstein.
Grant is famously private about his personal life, so it's unlikely we'll get many details about the proposal or upcoming nuptials. What we do know, however, is that Eberstein is the mother of two of his five children. She gave birth to their first child, John Mungo, in September 2012. He then got back together with his ex-girlfriend, Tinglan Hong—the mother of his first child, Tabitha—after she gave birth to another of Grant's children, Felix, in 2013. At some point, the two must have reunited, because Eberstein gave birth to his daughter, whose name has not been revealed, in December 2015. And now they're finally getting hitched.
Grant famously dated Elizabeth Hurley from 1987 to 2000, and they remain close friends, even going on holiday together. Grant is even godfather to her 16-year-old son, Damian.
In 2016, Grant told Howard Stern that he had mixed feelings about marriage and monogamy in general.
"I can see the lovely aspect if you marry exactly the right person—your best friend—and it's cozy and it's lovely, but people make so many mistakes. I think there's something unromantic about marriage. You're closing yourself off."
It looks like he's finally found that person and is ready to settle down. And for more celebrity stories that prove it's never too late, check out 11 Leading Men Who Happily Embraced Fatherhood Later in Life.
