20 Adorable “How We Met” Stories That Will Warm Your Heart
Not everyone meets on an app these days.
Nowadays, so many couples meet via online dating that when you tell someone that you met your boyfriend in a bar they look at you like you just told them you caught a unicorn out in the wild. And while I carry hot coffee around explicitly for the purpose of hopefully crashing into the next love of my life on the street, I realize that meet-cutes are largely reserved for characters in terrible romantic comedies.
Or are they?
On Monday, social media user Danny Mack asked people on Twitter how they met their partner, and happy couples flooded her feed with adorable stories that, shockingly, did not include late-night Tinder messages. It appears it is still possible to meet the love of your life while shopping for ice cream in the supermarket. Who would have known? And for stories of love gone awry, check out the personal testimonies of people who broke off their engagements.
At the Supermarket
“Went to Trader Joe’s for the first time ever. I’m in the frozen aisle trying to figure out what vegan ice cream is and a woman walks up and says ‘Are you Ethiopian?’ Been married for 2 years,” Berook Alemayehu wrote.
At a Yard Sale
“At a yard sale. He bent over to grab something and I saw how nice that [butt] was… 11 years later, we still going strong,” one user wrote. And if you’re hot on the dating scene, know Why You Should Never Play Hard to Get.

He Was Her Lyft Driver
“When I moved for work, he was my lyft driver! We couldn’t stop talking in our 8 minute ride, best friends from that day on. He definitely shot his shot and I was like nah the friendship! But he took such good care of me I propositioned him on my birthday! Ring shopping right now,” Tiffany Tracy Lee wrote. In a Library Parking Lot
“Library. I parked next to this car & found that the key was left on the door. I took the key to security and left him a note with my name and [number] just in case. He called and offered me coffee, to say thanks. A few dates later, we both knew that this is it,” one user wrote.

A Terrible High School Date

At an Audition
“We both auditioned for a lesbian web series and got casted. I met her the first table reading and when I realised she is Hispanic i shot my shot with the little bit of Spanish I knew. I had her at “hola, ¿de donde eres?” Pretty helpful I was wearing a Yankees fitted that day,” one user wrote.
In a Bar…Sort Of
“Last year i saw her in the bar on a couple occasions. Each time i was too shook to speak. I’d never seen a woman so gorgeous. A few weeks after the second time I saw her I had a new follower [on Twitter] and it was her. A few days after that she went through and liked my media.. I shot my shot,” one user wrote.
Through Mutual Interest in Marvel Comics

On the Way to a Date
“I was texting and driving in a parking lot…On my way to meet a different date and almost ran over this HOT guy, I slammed my brakes…He came to my window, I thought he would yell at me…but he asked me out for a drink…I quickly bailed on the other guy, and have been with hot guy for 8 years,” Trisha Mott wrote. Moral of the story: NEVER text while driving because you can actually kill someone, but also meet-cutes are real.”
