There’s a reason millions of Americans renew their Sam’s Club membership year after year. The bulk savings on groceries, the gas discounts, the no-frills warehouse format—it all adds up to rock bottom prices on top brands.

But with savings front and center, it’s worth paying attention when the store’s membership prices change. For the first time since 2022, the warehouse retailer has announced via member email that it will increase annual membership fees for both its Club and Plus tiers, effective May 1, 2026.

Before your next billing cycle, you’ll want to understand how the new plan affects your membership. Here’s the full breakdown of exactly what’s changing, what you’re getting in return, and what, if anything, you need to do about it.

1
The Price Is Going Up—But Not By Much

On May 1, 2026, Club membership will increase from $50 to $60 per year—a $10 jump. Plus membership will rise from $110 to $120 annually, also a $10 increase. Neither change is dramatic, but both are worth understanding before you’re billed.

No Action Is Required

You don’t need to do anything. Sam’s Club will automatically apply the updated pricing when your membership comes up for renewal. There’s no opt-in, no form to fill out, and no deadline to act on. Your membership continues uninterrupted—just at the new rate.

Plus Members Are Getting Something Extra

If you’re a Plus member, the price bump comes with a notable perk: the Sam’s Cashâ„¢ rewards cap is increasing two percent from $500 to $750 per year. That’s an additional $250 in potential annual rewards on eligible purchases. For frequent shoppers who consistently hit the old ceiling, this upgrade effectively narrows the gap between what you’re paying and what you can earn back.

What Sam’s Club Says It’s Investing In

The retailer frames the increase as a reinvestment in member value—citing an expanding set of benefits and a continued commitment to competitive pricing on groceries, household staples, and more. Sam’s Club has been steadily building out its member offerings in recent years, including fuel savings, pharmacy discounts, and its Scan & Go checkout feature.

“We have adjusted our membership pricing to support the things our members love,” a spokesperson for Walmart and Sam’s Club wrote in an emailed statement shared with Nexstar. “We will continue to provide innovative, tech‑driven tools and a curated assortment of the best national brands and Member’s Markâ„¢ items—while also giving members greater flexibility to shop how they want with expanded in-club hours, Curbside Pickup and enhanced delivery options, reinforcing Sam’s Club’s value promise of exceptional products and service and an elevated shopping experience.”

Is the Increase Worth It?

For casual shoppers, the math is simple: $10 more per year breaks down to less than $1 a month. For Plus members who actively use Sam’s Cash rewards, the raised cap from $500 to $750 could more than offset the added cost depending on annual spend. Members earning anywhere near the old ceiling stand to come out ahead.

The Bottom Line

Sam’s Club is adjusting its membership pricing for the first time in years, with Club prices moving to $60 and Plus to $120 annually starting May 1, 2026. That means you’ll still pay less for the pleasure of shopping with Sam’s Club, compared to its key competitor, Costco.

Sam’s Club Plus members will gain a higher rewards ceiling in return. If you want to review your current benefits or consider upgrading to Plus before the change takes effect, now is a good time to log in and take stock of where you stand.
