See Tom Hardy's Crazy Transformation into Al Capone—Photos
We're getting major gangster vibes already.
A few weeks ago, Tom Hardy shared his first photo on the set of Fonzo, an upcoming film in which he plays a 47-year-old Al Capone coming to terms with his criminal past after ten years in prison.
While the haunting photo gave a good sense of the vibe of the film, it didn't really capture the physical transformation that he's undergoing to play the infamous gangster. On Wednesday, however, he shared a selfie in his full makeup, and the difference is unbelievable.
It's a jawdropping transformation, even if he looks a little more like Sylvester Stallone in Creed or Marlon Brando in The Godfather than the chubby-cheeked mob boss, whom you can see below.
In another photo, Tom Hardy showed that he definitely intends to bring on the crazy in his new role. Which makes sense given that, at the time, Capone was struggling with the syphilitic dementia that he struggled with after his time in Alcatraz.
Having spent the last years of his prison sentence disoriented and confused in the prison hospital, he was admitted to Union Memorial Hospital for the treatment of paresis (caused by late-stage syphilis) after his release. He died from cardiac arrest in his mansion in Palm Island, Florida, in 1947, at the age of 48.
Anyone familiar with Tom Hardy's turn as Jewish gang leader Alfie Solomons in the TV show Peaky Blinders knows he certainly has the chops to play a mob boss who's not all there, so this film, written and directed by Fantastic Four's Josh Trank, promises to be an exciting one.
Hardy isn't the only famous face that's been unrecognizable lately. Have you seen those photos of Christina Aguilera without makeup on?
