The Message Behind Meghan Markle's Bold Move for Her Walk Down the Aisle

There's a powerful meaning behind the gesture.

Meghan Markle's decision to have Prince Charles walk her down the aisle — but just part of the away — when she marries Prince Harry on Saturday proves the former actress understands the power of imagery and is sending a strong message she is now truly a member of the royal family.

As an added twist — and a distinctly Meghan move — Charles will only walk beside her when she reaches the Quire, the section of the chapel where the royals are seated and walk her up to the altar. Meghan will walk most of the way solo with the young attendants behind her. She will be the first royal bride ever to do so.  A bold move that is meant to show the world that she is more than prepared to take her place among the British royals.

In a week where she endured the humiliation of having her own father, Thomas Markle, pull out of the wedding after the devastating discovery that he had worked with the paparazzi to stage photographs showing him supposedly preparing for the wedding, the bride-to-be rebounded beautifully by asking Prince Harry's father and the future King of England to escort her down the aisle of St. George's Chapel and into history.

"By choosing Charles, the future King, and him agreeing to walk with her for part of her trip down the aisle, this proves that Meghan has been welcomed with open arms into the family and that they bear no ill will towards her regarding her own father's actions," said my royal source.

The incredible events that saw Meghan's father first decline to walk her down the aisle, then change his mind and finally decide not to come due to health problems, threatened to over shadow the wedding.

Early reports said Meghan had wanted her mother, Doria Ragland, to escort her down the aisle but my sources told me that would never happen. "This is an option that satisfies Meghan and the royals. Both modern and traditional."

"Meghan now has done something that silences all the critics and places the attention firmly back where it belongs — on her and Prince Harry," said my source.

Her decision to have Charles escort her for part of her journey down the aisle also raises the inevitable comparisons to Princess Diana. Many people will be thinking about Diana at the wedding—and particularly now when they see Charles walking with Meghan. "I'm sure that was a consideration as well. In a way, it's honoring Diana because Harry believes his mother would be very happy for them. Meghan is giving Harry the happiness and love he has been looking for since his mother's death."
