The sustained good news of the late summer is long gone: Now, it's clear that the United States is experiencing another major surge in coronavirus cases. Experts are already beginning to call this national COVID spike a "third wave," which is especially troubling as the colder weather approaches, sending Americans indoors where the virus tends to spread. But what's equally concerning is that, as CNN reports, 21 states are currently seeing record-breaking COVID surges. Since Sunday, Oct. 10, these states all reported their highest seven-day average of new daily cases since the pandemic began. According to data from The New York Times as of Oct. 15, these are the states that are currently witnessing their worst coronavirus spikes yet.
