In the past week, the United States has seen an average of 52,156 new cases of COVID per day, an increase of 21 percent from the average two weeks earlier, according to the latest data from The New York Times. What's more, new cases are trending upward in 36 states, including most of the Northeast, which has become cause for concern after months of progress. But even though the majority of the U.S. is seeing COVID cases raise, eight states in particular have seen the most new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents over the last seven days. According to data from The New York Times as of Oct. 14, these are the states with the biggest coronavirus surges right now.
