This Is the State That Drinks the Most Beer, Data Shows

Find out exactly how much each state imbibes.

As we learned from Prohibition, not even a Constitutional amendment could keep Americans from drinking. But just how deep does this unofficial national pastime go? According to recently published data from the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, pretty far down. Researchers collected alcohol sales data from each state's 2018 tax revenue volume as a way to determine total consumption and then compared that information to previous years to track changes in overall drinking patterns, as well as various regional differences.

VinePair used this data to show just how much beer Americans are drinking, and they broke it down state by state. If we just go by the gallons of beer consumed, the most populous states rise right to the top. Looking at gallons of ethanol from beer per capita, however, gives us a more accurate picture of which state residents are (on average) imbibing the most. Read on to find out how your beer habits match up to your state's average—and how your state compares to the rest.
