This Is the Age Most People Get Married in Every U.S. State

From sea to shining sea, women tie the knot at a younger age than men.

It's well-known that those of younger generations get married later than their elders did. For instance, researchers with the Population Reference Bureau (PRB) found that, today, the national average for the age at which women first say "I do" is 27.6, while across the country, men seem to marry at the median age of 29.5. But U.S. Census figures indicates that, back in 1968, those numbers were 21 and 23, respectively.

But the country isn't exactly a cohesive unit in following this trend. In Utah, for instance, couples tend to tie the knot barely a few years after graduation, while, up in New York, you'll regularly see folks wait until they're in their 30s to take the plunge. Based on the PRB's findings (which listed the median age at first marriage for both women and men, relying on data collected from 2012 to 2016), we've pinpointed the average marriage age for every U.S. state.

So put on your favorite wedding jam—we recommend "Can't Help Falling in Love With You," by the King (who else?)—and prepare to find out how your state lines up with national trends.
