Police Arrest the Viral "Ross from Friends" Lookalike Thief
David Schwimmer, you're in the clear!
Last month, the Blackpool Police Department in England shared a Facebook post asking for help identifying a man that CCTV footage caught stealing, and the post quickly went viral when people couldn't help but notice that the thief bore a striking resemblance to Ross (played, of course, by David Schwimmer) from Friends.
The jokes rolled in, and the police department themselves got in on the fun by making a statement saying they had investigated the matter and "confirmed that David Schwimmer was in America on this date. We're so sorry it has to be this way."
Then, in another hilarious turn, Schwimmer himself posted a video in which he pretended to be stealing cans of beer from a grocery store in New York.
Well, after weeks of searching, the Blackpool Police Department has issued an update to confirm that the thief has been caught.
"Following the appeal we posted looking for a man who resembles a well-known actor from the popular sitcom 'Friends', we now have an update," they wrote on Facebook. "Thanks to our colleagues Metropolitan Police Service, a 36-year-old man was arrested in Southall last night on suspicion of theft. We would like to thank you all for the huge response we received—and a special thanks to David Schwimmer for seeing the funny side of our appeal!"
Of course, people couldn't resist making more Friends jokes in response to the news.
