Rejoice, Star Wars Fans! Ewan McGregor Wants to Make an Obi-Wan Film
"I'd be happy to play him again."
The new Star Wars trilogy has brought back some of our favorite characters from previous films: Han Solo, Chewy, Princess Leia, and, of course, Luke Skywalker. But there's one familiar face we have yet to see: Obi-Wan Kenobi, played by Ewan McGregor in director George Lucas' prequels.
McGregor had an infamously hard time on the set of the films, thanks in large part to Lucas' demanding style of directing. (In fact, I was once at a panel on which someone asked McGregor if he "enjoyed" playing in the films, and he responded with a rueful, minute-long laugh which said everything.)
Nonetheless, when he was asked backstage at the Golden Globes whether or not he would be down to reprise the role—something that Star Wars fans have been increasingly lobbying for on social media recently—he replied, "I'd be happy to play him again."
Sadly, there are no confirmed plans to incorporate him into future films, or create a spin-off.
""It's just that. There's a lot of talk. I'd be happy to play him again. I don't know any more about it more than you do. I saw the new one over Christmas. I thought it was really, really beautiful. I loved it."
Obviously, this set the Internet alight with a new hope.
Fans noticed that he's looking the part, noting that he's "already growing that Obi Wan beard."
And earlier this week, his trainer, Tony Horton, posted a photo of them training what could very well be some lightsaber moves.
So fingers crossed. And if you're a huge fan of a galaxy far, far away, check out there Star Wars locations you can visit today!
