This Is Prince William's Greatest Regret

The heir to the throne has been feeling "a bit let down" lately.

There is plenty of baby talk at Buckingham Palace these days, with the news that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle (excuse us, the Duchess of Sussex) are expecting their first child next spring, and with Prince William and Kate Middleton now the busy parents of three: Prince George, 5, Princess Charlotte, 3, and Prince Louis, 7 months. But as much as these are joyous additions to the royal family, one Palace insider told me that all of this has made William a tad "wistful."

These days William is feeling "a bit let down," says my royal source. "William has a very close relationship with the Middletons. He is very grateful for all their love and support, but there is no ignoring the fact that he thinks about what might have been and wishes his parents could have been their for George, Charlotte, and Louis the way Catherine's parents have been. He has a great relationship with the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh. He understands how important grandparents are in children's lives."

William, who has always been far more reserved than his younger brother, opened up to British GQ in 2017 about the loss of Diana saying,  "I would love her to have met Catherine and to have seen the children grow up. It makes me sad that she won't, that they will never know her."

Recently, in a new BBC documentary, Prince, Son and Heir: Charles at 70, William revealed that he wished Prince Charles would slow down and make more time for his grandchildren "when he's there, but we need him there as much as possible."

Now that his father has reached his landmark birthday, William believes,"It's a perfect time to consolidate a little bit. As most families would do, you are worried about having them around and make sure their health's okay. He's the fittest man I know, but equally I want him to be fit until he's 95. Having more time with him at home would be lovely and being able to, you know, play around with the grandchildren."

"William is very happy with his children and with Catherine," says my source. "But it is only natural to think about what might have been." And for more on the prince, this is what happened when Emma Thompson Tried to Kiss Prince William During Damehood Ceremony.
