How Prince Harry Popped the Question to Meghan Markle
"It was so sweet and natural and very romantic."
At 10am London time, The Royal Family took to Twitter (my, how the times have changed) in make the announcement that everyone has been waiting for: Prince Harry, 33, is engaged to his girlfriend of 16 months, Suits actress Meghan Markle. The Clarence House was "delighted to announce" that the wedding will take place in the Spring of 2018, and that Prince Harry sought the approval of Mrs. Markle's parents (which is so cute) before proposing.

The Royal Family account tweeted that the Queen and her husband were delighted about the engagement, as were Prince William and Kate Middleton, and Ms. Markle's parents. Basically, everyone is delighted, especially on social media, since Markle will be the Royal Family's first biracial princess. But the question remained: how did he pop the question?
A lot of people thought that it might have happened when Harry swooped Markle off to Botswana for her 36th birthday in August. If he had, he would have been following in the footsteps of his older brother, who reportedly proposed to Kate Middleton in a secluded log cabin in the foothills of Mount Kenya.
The press release by The Royal Family explicitly states, however, that it happened in London earlier this month. A few hours after the announcement was made, Prince Harry and his bride-to-be showed up for a photo-call at Kensington Palace Gardens, and then finally dished out the juicy details of how precisely the magical moment went down. True to their reputation for being a remarkably low-key and modern royal couple, it was shockingly down to earth:
"It happened a few weeks ago," Harry said. "Earlier this month, here at our cottage [by which he means Nottingham Cottage at Buckingham Palace]. Just a standard, typical night for us."
"Just a cozy night," Markle shyly interjected, beaming. "What were we doing? Roasting chicken and—"
"Trying to roast a chicken," Harry laughed.
"Trying to roast a chicken," she agreed. "And it was just—just an amazing surprise, it was so sweet and natural and very romantic. He got on one knee."
"Of course!" Harry said. Apparently, we're still keeping the good bits of tradition alive.
Obviously, Markle said yes right away.
"I could barely let him finish proposing. I was like 'Can I say yes now?" she laughed.
