Woman Discovers She's Related to Her Husband of 17 Years

Colorado woman is shocked when she finds out the results of her DNA test.

Like millions of people, Celina Quinones decided to take a DNA test to learn more about her family tree, but the results were far from what she expected. The outcome revealed her husband of 17, and the father of her three children is actually a cousin, which brings them a whole new meaning of keeping in the family! Quinones has been open about the blindsiding situation on TikTok and although she's been faced with some backlash, she's standing by her man and not leaving her husband. 

Celina Quinones Said She Was "Freaked Out" at First

​​In 2016, Quinones learned for the first time she was related to her husband and it wasn't easy to accept. She said in one clip. "It was devastating, "I was like, 'Babe, we're related. Like, are we even supposed to be together?' This is weird.' It really freaked me out." While it was an initial shock, she's moved on, but does have advice for other couples. "Get a DNA test if you're not sure who you're dating."

How Quinones Shared the News on TikTok

In a six second video that's now gone viral, Quinones' posted text across the video that read, "Married my husband in 2006. Not thinking anything of it, we have three kids," the text continued. "Come to find out we were related and cousins." Then a screenshot of the couple's shared ancestry that shows they are a match of 62 cM (or centimorgan, which is a unit for measuring genetic linkage), which a commenter wrote, "just checked, that means you guys share like an 8th great grandfather. That's like barely anything." Another trolled her and wrote, 4th cousins is nothing. You barely share any DNA with 3rd cousins. I thought you were going to say 1st or 2nd."

Many Viewers Didn't Like the Couple's Candid Confession

Quinones faced a lot of backlash for revealing she's related to her husband and many commenters were not so kind. "Girl, that's disgusting," one viewer wrote. "You couldn't torture this information out of me," another person wrote. "We would have taken this to our grave cuz." Someone else wrote, "Bro this could've been a secret." Another questioned, "Y'all even look alike. How did y'all not know?" A stunned commenter chimed in with, "My literal jaw dropped. I rebuke this." 

The Couple is Brushing Off the Criticism

While it was an initial shock to learn about the unexpected blood relation, the couple have put it past them. She wrote, "My kids and my husband are my everything and we looked past it. All our kids have 10 fingers and 10 toes. It's a good ice breaker lol." In another clip she stated, "I love my cousin. I wouldn't trade it any other way that I'm married to him on accident. At the end of the day we've got to figure it out. We have children. We'll be good."  

Quinones Shot Back at People Who Said She Should Divorce Her Husband

After sharing the news, many people commented that she should leave her husband and Quinones firmly said that's not an option. "I ain't gonna let a little bit of blood destroy what we created, this beautiful family," she said. "17 years with my cousband. No, we didn't know till we did a DNA test.  We had a four-month courtship before we got married. He is still and will be my everything."
