King Charles Did "His Very Best" For Meghan Markle, But She Reacted With "No Enthusiasm," Royal Expert Claims
According to Angela Levin, there are many reasons why King Charles and Meghan Markle don’t have a great relationship.
King Charles' relationship with daughter-in-law Meghan Markle has always intrigued the public. When Prince Harry first started dating the Suits star, it seemed that her relationship with him was meaningful, especially when her own father backed out of coming to her huge wedding and King Charles stepped in to walk his future daughter-in-law down the aisle.
However, after becoming an official member of the family, things appeared to have soured between the two – especially when Harry and Meghan decided to leave behind their roles as working members of the Royal Family. Recently Meghan openly discussed Harry and Charles' relationship issues, further fueling speculation that the two were no longer close. Royal author Angela Levin explains to The Sun that King Charles gave it his all in terms of establishing a relationship with the former Suits star, but her desire to be "number one" in the family was the reason why their relationship failed. Also, she claims that his efforts were met "with no enthusiasm."
"Prince Charles, as he was then, when he was first introduced to Meghan thought she was terrific," Levin tells the publication. "He did think she was a breath of fresh air and he was very happy that Prince Harry had found someone to get married to."
"It didn't work and however kind he's been – offers of coming up to Balmoral and coming to lunch in the country – it's been taken with no enthusiasm or not taken at all," Levin continued. "He's done his very best but Meghan wanted her and Harry to be number one and it annoyed her."
Levin adds that there is a reason why King Charles has a better relationship with William's wife, Kate Middleton. "Catherine comes from a stable family where if there are any arguments or disputes they work very hard, very quickly to sort it out," she said. "Meghan of course comes from a broken family and there is a lot to show that she tends to just cut people out of her life if they say anything that might not be praise. [Catherine is] a family person she doesn't cause trouble even if she's not 100 per cent pleased with something, she just gets it done and carries on, whereas Meghan takes a stand. The way that [Catherine] and the now King look at each other when they go to an event or go to an engagement, they're very relaxed with each other, they smile, they laugh they're at ease."
Levin adds that Meghan constantly "attacking" the Royal Family is "very insulting" and doesn't help her cause. "I don't think it's at all about favorites. I think it's about having a family and responding to that. He [Charles] has done everything he can to keep the family going. He loves Harry very much and did like Meghan very much but it's just her behavior that you just have to accept. She's as hard as nails and it's not easy to get through that unless you absolutely do it her own way. They don't have any time to get on."
