This Major American Airport Just Got an $8 Billion New Face Lift
Phase one of LaGuardia's sleek new renovation is officially complete. Check it out in this new video.
If you were to ask any frequent domestic flyer which American airport they like the least, it's a good bet they'd blurt out two words: "LaGuardia Airport." After all, this is the very same New York City-based airport that current Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden once famously described as like being in "some third-world country." But we may all soon change our tune on LaGuardia, as the first phase of its massive $8 billion renovation, launched by Governor Andrew Cuomo in 2015, is now complete—and the airport's Terminal B is officially open for business. American Airlines and United Airlines both began utilizing the glitzy new terminal's Arrivals and Departures Hall this weekend.
"The opening of the first new Arrivals and Departures Hall is a major milestone in delivering on Governor Cuomo's vision for a brand new, world-class, 21st-century LaGuardia Airport that the region deserves," said Rick Cotton, executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
Scheduled for completion in 2022, the LGA Terminal B redevelopment project is part of a comprehensive $8.2 billion effort to transform the airport into a modern, unified facility, featuring improved ground transportation access, additional taxiways, and best-in-class amenities.
