Kevin's Famous Chili From "The Office" Is Back in a New Commercial
Bush's Beans are giving Kevin's famous chili form The Office a chance at redemption.
If you're a fan of The Office, you know that one of best scenes of the entire series came in Season 5 when Dunder Mifflin's bumbling accountant Kevin Malone (Brian Baumgartner) brings an enormous pot of his "famous chili" into the office. "At least once a year, I like to bring in some of my Kevin's Famous Chili," he says in episode. "I'm serious about this stuff. I'm up the night before, pressing garlic and dicing whole tomatoes. I toast my own ancho chilies. It's a recipe passed down from Malones for generations—it's probably the thing I do best."
Of course, he gets it up the stairs and then proceeds to spill it all over the floor, frantically trying to scoop it all up with office supplies and his own body. To this day, there may be no better gif to describe the tragicomedy of when something you worked hard on goes terribly, terribly wrong.
And on Feb. 27, in honor of National Chili Day, Kevin and his famous chili made a glorious comeback in a new commercial for Bush's Beans.
Granted, Baumgartner didn't totally reprise his role. Instead, he decided to share his own chili recipe, which seems to be the classic beans, ground turkey, garlic, cheese, and peppers combo. The most important element of Kevin's chili, on the other hand, was undercooked onions.
It might be jarring at first to hear Baumgartner speak in his regular voice, rather than the slow, monotone drawl that The Office fans came to know and love. But the way he fumbles around with the food processor, struggles to spell out the word "best," and knocks the pot over at the end certainly feels like an homage to the character he's best known for.
It's nice to see Kevin finally get to serve a bowl of his beloved chili… before knocking it all over.
