Kate Middleton Is Homeschooling George and Charlotte Amid Coronavirus
The Cambridge kids will be following "a digital learning plan" with Kate as their teacher.
Kate Middleton has always been a hands-on mum to Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, but now that Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced that schools all across England will be closed "for the foreseeable future" in an effort to fight the spread of coronavirus, the Duchess of Cambridge plans to take on another important role for her children: their teacher. Kate will be homeschooling her royal brood at Kensington Palace while they follow a digital remote learning plan from their school, Thomas's Battersea in London. The school has directed parents to keep their children home.
"The duchess is very keen to keep the children engaged in all the activities they love," a royal insider told me. "She is going to make the most of this time with the children and incorporate some material from school into their activities. She paints and draws with them. Catherine loves being outside with them and exploring nature. She is passionate about the importance of early childhood experiences; she has a lot of different things planned."
At the top of the list is reading to the young royals. "She and the Duke of Cambridge are always reading to the children," said the insider. William has said George and Charlotte are fans of Julia Donaldson's Room on the Broom. During his trip to Wales, the doting dad told a few parents: "I read [the book] to our children all the time." (Donaldson received a CBE for her services to literature.)
Kate may have been preparing to homeschool her children in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic for some time. Last week, she was photographed shopping in London at Waterstones, a bookstore near Kensington Palace. According to The Sun, she asked staffers about history- and military-themed children's books.
"They may be the future King and Queen Consort, but Catherine and William are just like every parent around the world right now," said my insider. "They are doing everything they can to keep their family safe and try to maintain some semblance of normalcy for their children."
