Justin Trudeau Just Wore the Funniest Socks in Davos—Photos
The reason why is totally brilliant.
If you read our post on the 11 Ways Men Should All Try to Be More Like Justin Trudeau, you know that the PM of Canada is pretty awesome. So awesome, in fact, that the 20-year-old Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai personally thanked him today for his commitment to the education of young girls in underpriveleged countries.
The two were part of a panel on education and empowerment at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Thursday, when Trudeau announced that Canada would be doubling its annual contribution to the Global Partnership for Education from $90 M to $180 M over 3 years.
“Prime Minister Trudeau, on behalf of 130 million girls around the world, thank you,” Malala said to him.
Trudeau, a proud feminist, said, “Men must have the courage to be feminists, and the integrity to be allies.”
It was a beautiful, inspiring, important meeting that emulated incandescent hope for the world’s future.
So you would think Trudeau would be wearing something that reflected the seriousness of the occasion. Instead, he wore bright purple socks decorated with yellow rubber ducks. “Justin Trudeau takes his sock game to a whole new level,” London Evening Standard journalist Elliot Wagland wrote on Twitter.
This was not the first time that the PM showed he’s got a healthy sense of humor that he expresses through his socks. He famously wore Chewbacca socks at the Bloomberg Global Business Forum in New York in September, and rocked R2-D2 and C-3PO socks on the 4th of May during a meeting with Ireland’s prime minister.
While a lot of people seem to think it’s a silly habit, it’s actually brilliant marketing. You click on a link to see photos of his funny socks, and end up reading about a panel on gender and education at the World Economic Forum. Nicely done, Trudeau.
