Police Made This 93-Year-Old Woman's Dying Wish to Get Arrested Come True
After a lifetime of good, Josie Birds just wanted to be bad.
On Saturday, Birds' granddaughter, Pam Smith, tweeted, thanking the Greater Manchester Police Department for fulfilling her Gran Josie's wish of serving time while she still could.
"She is 93 years old and her health is failing, and she wanted to be arrested for something before it's too late," Smith wrote. "She has a heart of gold and thoroughly enjoyed it today. Thank you for granting her wishes."
A big thank you to @gmpolice for "arresting" my Gran Josie today. She is 93 years old and her health is failing, and she wanted to be arrested for something before it's too late. She has a heart of gold and thoroughly enjoyed it today. Thank you for granting her wishes. pic.twitter.com/hi1qkJESwv

"They accused her of robbing a co-op and her response was, 'I don't do my shopping in co-op'," Smith told the BBC. "They put her in handcuffs and took her to the police station in the back of the van, where they 'questioned' her rigorously. She wanted to go into the cells too, but they drew the line at that and gave her tea and cake instead."
In a follow-up tweet, the Greater Manchester Police department wrote they were glad they could do this for Birds and that it "looks like she got the full experience!"
Hello, I'm glad our officers could help out, looks like she got the full experience! Give our best to Josie and I'll try and pass your message back to the officers who kindly helped out.

Smith replied that it truly made her day. "She is still talking about it and excited about it," she wrote. "It has made an old lady very happy."

It's not the first time someone's final wish has been to be put in the clink, either. In 2017, a 99-year-old woman from a small town in The Netherlands checked getting "arrested" off of her bucket list as well, and the photos posted by the police department of her looking absolutely elated to be in handcuffs quickly went viral.
