Jared Leto Looks Totally Unrecognizable for His New TV Show

You probably wouldn't know it was him if you saw him on the street.

Jared Leto has been a chameleon throughout his career. From playing the Joker in Suicide Squad to his extreme weight gain for Chapter 27, many of his acting roles have required him to alter his appearance in order to commit to  fully embodying his characters. Now, Leto is once again transforming himself to play another real-life character who he doesn't normally look like. Photos of Leto on the set of a new show he is filming for Apple TV+ about the couple behind the coworking space WeWork have recently surfaced, and, from his physique, to his eye color, to his clean-shaven face, Leto is completely unrecognizable now. To see the shocking photos, read on.

In late May, photos of Leto on the set of the forthcoming show, titled WeCrashed, surfaced online. Leto stars as one of the founders of WeWork, Adam Neumann, and Anne Hathaway plays Rebekah Neumann, Adam's wife and part founder of WeWork. According to Apple, the show "will follow the greed-filled rise and inevitable fall of WeWork, one of the world's most valuable startups, and the narcissists whose chaotic love made it all possible." Both Leto and Hathaway are also executive producers on the show.

The show is based on the podcast from Wondery of the same name, which detailed the story behind how WeWork was valued at $47 billion after Adam sold the belief that the company would change the world, but the reality didn't quite match up. Wondery described it as "a story of hope and hubris, big money and bigger screwups, and the lengths people will go to chase 'unicorns.'"

To play Adam, Leto changed his eye color from blue to brown, his hairstyle, shaved his signature scruff, and seemingly lost weight. He also appears to be wearing facial prosthetics.

Hathaway had to undergo her own transformation to play Rebekah.

For most of the scenes in the show, Hathaway underwent a more subtle but still notable transformation to play Rebekah with her long brown hair done in the WeWorker co-founder's signature long waves.

But in some photos captured on the set of WeCrashed, Hathaway is seen in a look that's very different from her other scenes as Rebekah: wearing a blonde wig and covered in blood. The scene appears to also feature Hathaway as Rebekah laying on the roof of a car, although it's unclear what the violent moment is depicting.

While Rebecca, who is the cousin of Gwyneth Paltrow, dabbled in acting, she studied business and Buddhism at Cornell and briefly worked at Smith Barney, according to a Bustle profile. She was introduced to Adam by a college friend and married him in 2008, the same year WeWork unofficially began as one floor of an empty office space in Brooklyn, New York.

Adam then served as the founder and CEO of WeWork from 2010 through 2019, after a lawsuit from a former employee alleged issues of sexual harassment and other inappropriate substance-related behavior in the workplace, thus starting his demise.

After WeWork's collapse in 2019, the couple moved to Tel Aviv, where Adam is from, with their five children, including two sets of twins. They returned to the U.S. and currently live in the Hamptons, Forbes reports. The Naumanns also reportedly have plans to relaunch Rebekah's biggest passion project, WeGrow, the educational arm of WeWork that paid portions of students' tuitions. It'll reportedly now be called "Student of Life for Life," AKA "SOLFL," which is pronounced "soulful."

Leto hasn't been on TV for more than 25 years.

Leto is one of the best shape-shifting actors of his time. His take on Adam is his latest role in a series of acting credits that require serious physical and emotional commitment. His performances have run the gamut from the tattooed, face-painted, crime-committing Joker in Suicide Squad to his Oscar-winning portrayal of a transgender woman in Dallas Buyers Club to gaining 62 pounds to resemble Mark Chapman in Chapter 27.

However, one thing he hasn't done is decades is starred on the small screen. Leto hasn't been on TV since his breakout role as Jordan Catalano on the beloved, but short-lived '90s series My So-Called Life, which ran from 1994 to 1995.
