Colorado Dad Goes Viral for His Hilarious Dad Jokes on Community Center Sign
"I've made a lot of people laugh and that's a good feeling."
Usually, dad jokes inspire an eye roll, an exasperated sigh, or the human version of this emoji: 🙈. But Vince Rozmiarek, 56, has been delighting members of his Colorado community with his warm and witty sense of humor for years by putting up dad jokes on the local Indian Hills Community Center roadside sign.
And now, they've gone viral, getting more laughs than eye rolls nationwide. "I just like to throw out a little positive," he told Best Life about his motivation for the signs.
For years, the father of three from the tiny town of Indian Hills, Colorado, had been perfecting his puns as a stay-at-home dad to his daughter and two sons.
"My wife and I both worked and had good jobs, but then my company wanted to transfer me just as our second son was born and I didn't want to go, so we decided to try the Mr. Mom route and it was successful," he said. "I like to call myself a trophy husband."
Rozmiarek became a very active part of the community, participating in Dad's Club, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and volunteering to put up messages on the community center sign along Indian Hills' only highway.
But once his children grew up, Rozmiarek found himself with some extra time on his hands. So, he started to have some fun with latter gig.
His personal favorite? "To the thief who stole my anti-depressants, I hope you're happy." He's also a big fan of, "Cows have hooves because they lactose."
Rozmiarek put up his first dad joke sign on April Fool's Day in 2013, and he's ruffled some feathers here and there since then.
"You know the biblical saying, 'As for me and my house, we will serve the lord (Joshua 24:15)'? Well, I put up a sign that said, 'As for me and my house, we will serve tacos (Salsa 24:7)," he said. "Some people didn't like that."
And there was another minor controversy when he put up, "Here's a sign only anti-vaxxers will get: measles."
But, for the most part, people love them.
Today, there's a Facebook page with more than 90,000 followers eagerly awaiting his next masterpiece.
Oftentimes, his fans like to join in on the action. For example, Rozmiarek recently posted a photo of a sign that says, "Break-in at the Apple Store! Police looking for iWitnesses." And one Facebook user replied, "I bet it was an in cider job."
But, in all seriousness, Rozmiarek's kindhearted comic relief means a lot to his fans, one of whom wrote on the Facebook page: "This little place saves my life most days."
Rozmiarek thinks the signs have taken off since we're "all so busy these days" and "there's so much negativity out there."
"I've made a lot of people laugh and that's a good feeling," he said. "Besides, who doesn't like to smile?"
