The World’s Best Sangria Recipe—Video
You'll never guess the secret ingredient!
Sangria is the perfect cocktail that everyone seems to love. It’s refreshing on a hot summer day, but also can warm you up on a cold winter’s day, depending on how you make it. This particular sangria is my very favorite recipe, and I’ve been whipping it up for years! The cinnamon sticks inside really give it that cozy, wintery feel that is perfect to sip next to a fireplace. Ahhhh…
I make my sangria with Rioja wine. I like to use a Spanish wine, since sangria originated from Spain. It’s also important to use a lighter style wine that is fruit-forward and low in tannins, since tannins tend to get more aggressive when refrigerated.
I also love bringing a little Mexico into Spain! The Latin flavors really seem to love each other. Speaking of which, I love to pair this with my Guacamole (for some Mexico!), and with some Manchego cheese and Marcona almonds (for some Spain!). And if it’s a dinner party, of course, this would be perfect with your favorite Paella dish too.
This Sangria is always a hit at the holidays or dinner parties, and quite frankly, it’s so easy to make that I often whip up a small batch just for myself!
The World’s Best Red Sangria Recipe:
- 2 bottles Rioja wine
- 1 cup silver tequila
- ¼ cup Cointreau (or orange liquor)
- 2 cans mandarin oranges (drained)
- 3 apples (diced)
- 3 whole cinnamon sticks
- 1 orange (use 3 or 4 round slices)
- Sprite or sparkling water (for fizz and lift)
Place all of the fruit and cinnamon sticks into a pitcher. Pour in the wine, then the tequila and Cointreau. Cover and refrigerate for a few hours (or up to 3 days before serving). When serving, top with Sprite or Sparkling Water and pour over ice. Salud!
