Here's Why Everyone Is Freaking Out about Melania Trump's Hat
The wide-brimmed signal seen round the world.
On Tuesday, Melania Trump and President Donald Trump welcomed French president Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, to the White House ahead of their first official state banquet. Melania wore a crisp white belted suit, white skirt, and stilettos, but it was her wide brimmed white hat that no one could stop talking about.

The hat is the latest in series of subtle signs that the First Lady is distancing herself from her husband.
Ever since the scandal surrounding rumors of an alleged affair and subsequent $130,000 payoff with porn star Stormy Daniels began to brew, FLOTUS has largely appeared out of the spotlight. But, when she has made public appearances, people have pointed out that she's made subtle hints that she is, at the very least, not so happy with her husband of 13 years.
Recent photos of her holding hands with Trump show her looking decidedly somber, which made photos of her laughing while sitting next to former President Barack Obama while attending Barbara Bush's funeral at St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston on Saturday feel like a sharp jab at her husband.

Eagle-eyed viewers watching the ceremony on Tuesday morning also noticed that Melania tried to avoid holding hands with Trump as they stood at the White House to greet the French president and his wife—with him using an awkward pinkie move to try to coerce her into presenting a united front.
