The Real Reason Meghan and Harry Aren't Hiring a Nanny

Meghan's mother has been secretly taking classes on caring for a newborn.

It's no secret that Meghan Markle likes to have things done just so. The duchess has made it clear she and Prince Harry have their own ideas on how they'll raise Baby Sussex. From her decision to decorate the eco-friendly royal nursery in gender-neutral colors to her insistence on installing additional soundproofing at Frogmore House (which has delayed the couple's move to their new residence), the first-time mother-to-be has made sure everything she needs will be in place when the the royal bundle of joy arrives.

According to Palace insiders, Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, will play an important part in Meghan's post-delivery plans. With the baby due in a matter of weeks, Doria is expected to arrive in London any day for an extended stay with her daughter. Luckily for Meghan, the Los Angeles-based yoga instructor is said to be an expert on pre-natal yoga, which will surely come in handy in the days ahead.

Meghan has stated many times that she is extremely close to her mother, so it makes perfect sense that she would turn to her at this exciting time. Now, because there have been rumors circulating that no nanny has been hired thus far, some insiders are wondering if Meghan has tapped her own mother for the job—and asked her to obtain the proper training in order to do it.

The Daily Star reported that Doria took nanny classes last fall. The grandmother-to-be is said to have attended classes on caring for a newborn at Cradle Company, a Los Angeles "parenting clinic" for special newborn classes. The training was to have included "breastfeeding and lactation consultancy, basic baby care, CPR, and first aid."

The instructors also gave tips for sleep training and how to best help a new mother recover from her delivery. The report also revealed two instructors came to Doria's home to keep the grandmother-to-be out of the prying eyes of the paparazzi.

"It certainly wouldn't surprise me," said one Palace insider when I asked about whether Doria will act as the baby's nanny—at least in the very beginning. "Meghan is very keen on doing things her way and having only the very best for the new baby. Everyone is on high alert. I'm sure Ms. Ragland would do whatever her daughter asks of her."
